This was my first time visiting Red and Green Burrito. I had heard they were similar to Chipotle and since the closest Chipotle is about 40-50 minutes away I had to try this place out.
I ordered a Steak Burrito with Cilantro Rice, No Beans, Steak, Corn salsa, Sour Cream, and Cheese.
The ingredients were mostly fresh, hot, and cooked well. The steak was soft and not chewy, the rice was light and fluffy, the sour cream cold, the cheese fresh and soft, and the tortilla was fresh and warm.
So why 3 stars? Well, while everything was good it lacked flavor and the flavors that are there don't mesh well.
The rice isn't cilantro lime rice, there's no lime flavor to it or added oil or salt. The rice was also very aromatic which wasn't bad but didn't really lend itself to the burrito. The rice was high quality but something I'd expect to find in a spring roll or other Asian inspired cuisine and lacked that tex-mex or Latin flavor.
The steak was cooked well but was rather flavorless. I didn't see a grill in the kitchen so I assume the meat was fried.
The corn salsa was mostly corn with very little onion. From what I could see it wasn't really salsa but just a mix of corn and onion. It could have used some lime just and cilantro with bigger pieces of red onion.
The people here seemed to be working hard and doing their best but they also seemed rather tired and didn't talk much even after I told them I was a first time customer. When I paid for my meal, I paid in cash and used exact change. The person at the register seemed disappointed when I went to leave and I wasn't sure if she was just tired or disappointed i didn't leave a tip.
Overall, the price of the burrito was the same you'd pay for a burrito at Chipotle but not as flavorful. However, you're buying from a local business owner who's working hard to produce a quality product and you have to respect them for that. Hopefully, they'll work at improving their product. I'm sure I will visit them again and try out some other food...
Read more5 stars for the food itself. it's very tasty, and you recieve a large meal for a surprisingly low price. The burritos are quite large- especially for around 8-10 dollars each.
They have a fairly good selection of toppings to choose from as well. Red and Green burrito does NOT skimp out on toppings- I didn't have to even ask, and the lady who made the burrito went back and added extra toppings, no extra charge!
So, if you want a very cost-friendly equivalent to chipotle, and you don't mind a generous helping of food, this is the place for you. Now, if you are someone who cares about interior decoration or atmosphere, there isn't a whole lot here. (However, to their credit, it is a quite clean restaurant from what I've seen.) There are very minimal to no decorations, no flashy menus, and cold/slightly dim lighting. Red and Green burrito makes up for that with the food itself, and the good price of said food. Totally recommend, great little gem of a place.
p.s they have vegetarian options...
