My experience with CLP has been difficult and frustrating. In short, do not trust CLP with any hides that you value.
Here is the long story:
In November 2020 I brought a deer and coyote hide to CLP for hair-on tanning. I drove 4 hours round trip to drop off these hides and was looking forward to getting them back, as they had great sentimental value. I was told they would be done in August 2021, but I never received a call. I called CLP and was informed it would take until December 2021 - I wasn’t too concerned. Yet I never heard from CLP in December. I called again in January, February, and March with no success. The representative at CLP kept claiming they would follow up, but never did. At this point I suspected the hide were lost, but mid-March I called and they claimed they were ready and sent them out. The hides I received were clearly not the ones I provided back in November (the deer was taken with a rifle; whereas mine was with a shotgun. Shot placement was wrong as well). I quickly followed up to correct the issue, and they told me they had lost my hides and I could return the ones I received. Unfortunately they refused to provide a prepaid shipping label and offered a measly $6 for compensation for my raw hides - considering I likely spent $30 in fuel, $4 in salt, and numerous hours preparing the hides and transporting them. They barely apologized for their mistake and hardly attempted to make the situation right. I will not return to CLP for any future business. I would not trust CLP with anything of...
Read moreGreat place to send your hides. I've had 4 hides tanned here and was very specific with my the first year hunting I got a buck. It was special to me that I get MY hide turned into gloves, and Century lets you do that. I couldn't find anywhere else nearby that would tan and return your hide. Everyone else did give us a hide and we will give you gloves. They are really friendly and work with you to make sure you get what you want and it fits right. They pay close attention to detail and aren't annoyed if you're a first timer and have more questions about the process and choosing your items.
You pay for the tanning, and then the gloves seperate but it's a very reasonable price. They do allow you to buy additional leather if you don't have enough for whatever you choose to get made, and they also just sell items in their workshop. They have a good selection of gloves/mittens in stock, colors, sizes, insulations and they can make other things like bags, jackets, slippers, pillow and other items. Once my hide was tanned and I chose my items it was about 2 months for the mittens and gloves to get custom made and shipped. I have a set of insulated gloves and 2 sets of mittens one in black and one in saddle.
My most recent hide has been tanned, but I haven't decided what I want yet. So the hide was shipped back to me and when I decide I can take it or mail it back. We live in southern Wisconsin so we made a special stop on our trip to Durand. No question, this is where all my...
Read moreThe best customer service I have ever experienced hands down. I placed my order on their website and called a few days after to see if I missed an email, and I spoke with Nicki, who was fantastic. There were a few question about my gloves and the order which she answered directly and also called me back to let me know what was happening with my order. I was told that my order may not get to me before Christmas and to my surprise I received my order on the 22nd! This is one of the best companies I have ever dealt with. If you are even slightly thinking about getting anything from Century Leather Products just buy it you...
