I went here last month for the first time. This resturant is pretty unique in it's appearance - the rustic decor and lighting, the choice of seating and tables, as well as the industrial style lighting. It was very beautiful!! The staff was very friendly and greeted everyone as they came through the door. They checked on our group numerous times and we never felt ignored / overlooked.
I gave it three stars as the food we ordered tasted okay and was a little overpriced. We ordered fried pickles as an appetizer - they were sliced pretty thin and were sitting in a lot of grease, therefore, we could only eat the ones on top. The entree I ordered was cooked completely different from how I've ever received the dish from anywhere else. I ordered the chicken picata. If the menu had a description of the entree I would have either known up front what to expect or ordered another item. For anyone wondering, the menu literally just said "Chicken Picata" followed by the price. My fiance ordered the "Shrimp dinner" - the only description provided was "fried or grilled" followed by the price. He said the coating on the fried shrimp was a similar texture to that on the fried pickles - soft and with a lot of grease.
With that said, the food Was Not Bad! It just had a different taste / texture than what we had expected. There were other people in our group that seemed to like what they ordered, therefore, as long as you are aware of the price, this place is worth checking out.
You may want to ask a staff member for a description of an entree (if it is not listed on the menu) because I am sure they would be more than helpful. Also, one person in our group who had been there prior suggested the meatloaf (which several of us were going to try), however, we were informed they were out of it...
Read moreSeems low I know, I was surprised too. I gave 1 Star for ambience and overall feel of the restaurant and 1 Star for excellent staff. They missed the mark from two stars from food: taste, quality and enjoyment. And 1 star from menu selection, value and pricing. We received little corn muffins on our table, I'm not a fan of cornbread, one each. On previous post I seen ppl receive a thick sliced bread, looks like a french loaf, I would have preferred that option. Side salad: Greens were wilted to the freezing bowl. Seems the salad was premade and in that bowl awhile. I had to pick out the soft croutons and the brown bits of greens. Ranch dressing was tasty. Entrees: Bland Bland Bland. Low country chicken, small flavorless chicken breast topped with a flavorful cream sauce with the star ingredient sweet corn, tomatoes and flabby bits of bacon. Flavorless mashed potatoes, and I love mashed potatoes, one came with brown gravy on the side and one came with the brown gravy on top of the mashed potatoes not sure why that was. I'm usually not a fan of brown gravy but it was seasoned nicely. Fried okra that was not seasoned at all not even salt. Mac and cheese I did like the pasta choice of the spirals and the cheese sauce had potential but I definitely did have to add salt and pepper to doctor it up. Meatloaf our biggest disappointment somehow the meat was very mushy with an intolerable and unrecognizable flavor and the vegetables in it were hard, possibly celery and carrots. There was not anyway to doctor that dish to...
Read moreReally wanted to support a locally owned business, but super disappointed and won't be back. One of the reasons I wanted to try this place was for the live music. However, there was a large party in the main dining room, so no music or band. This should have been mentioned when I made reservations. There was no hostess when we entered the second dining room, so I had to go find someone. They were out of meatloaf and sweet potatoes. Our drinks were brought out fast but only one person out of the five in our party got a drink refill during the meal. The fried dill pickle slices appetizer was excellent. The chicken portion size in the Low Country was super small, like toddler size. My husband was still hungry after eating. My son and I both got the shrimp and grits. The shrimp was bad, very fishy tasting, and I couldn't eat any of it. So my meal was a side salad. The side salad and ranch dressing was very good. My son was stuffed up from allergies, so he ate his shrimp & grits, then threw up when he got home. My husband also had a queasy stomach when we left. I asked if the banana pudding was homemade and our server said it just basically tasted like vanilla, so we passed on dessert. Overall, all 5 of us were very disappointed. The atmosphere is really nice since it's an old,...
