My husband and I went to Pizzashop because they were one of few places open past 9pm in Oxford. We bought a Margarita Pizza on their gluten free crust. The service was great, the employees were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, gluten free pizzas are charged by the topping, and the per topping price for BYO pizzas is a little steep for a two topping, 12-inch pizza, which totaled over $18.00. Point blank, that gluten free pizza is nothing short of vile. We both tried to eat one slice before just throwing the pizza away entirely and went to Marco’s instead*. Gluten free crust is never great, as someone allergic to gluten I’d know, but they aren’t disgusting either- unless of course, it’s whatever they used here. The sauce was incredibly salty, and I don’t think I’ve had Mozzarella cheese taste more like wet plastic before. *Second Photo is the Marco’s Pizza replacement

Visiting to do some work with the Uni. Craving a slice, this place popped up. Quick trip, pleasantly surprised to find this place according to my colleague just recently opened. While it doesn't have the old school feel of a traditional NYC hole in the wall, I must say I was quite impressed. They had calzones on the menu so decided to get one for the evening after happy hour. Nice place, great food, def beyond expectations for the region. Staff was also friendly and accommodating. Will repeat in the fall when I'm back in town.

I’m not usually one who takes time to write reviews, but goodness. This was bad. The pizza was fine taste wise. But we waited for an hour and a half for our food. When we got arrived, the place was totally empty too. The staff (minus the cook) was super rude. Unfriendly and never apologized once for the wait. Didn’t even say a word when bringing our food after we waited so long. I ordered a gluten free 12” and it was tiny. Laughably small. Where are the other inches..?

Good pizza but not great. Good service but they can be slow sometimes.

Update: I lowered my rating from 3 stars to 1 star. Only gone here twice so I'm not the end all source, just one review. Owner's response to my initial review of 3/5 stars was not helpful, they only attempted to prove that I was wrong from their perspective, and from what I can tell, they do not take any criticisms well. Other reviews that did not give 5 stars, have similar responses with the same sentiment. I gave an average review for an average performance.

First time I called, y'all said it would take over 2 hours, so I did not order that night. Second time I called, y'all gave me a 30-40 min time estimate, which is totally fine by me, so I ordered, but it took 55-60 minutes to be ready. To your credit third time was estimated in 30 minutes and was ready when I arrived.

Sure, it tastes fresh but there is no flavor to most of it. Tried the meats, and margarita first time. What is your chicken, I can't tell its chicken, there is no flavor in any of it, do you boil it? Pepperoni was bland. 3 hours for the meatballs? Not worth it, they were also bland. The margarita pizza was a joke, mozzarella was dry, and you might as well have set the basil on fire. What olive oil? Sure couldn't taste any. Your sauce had a great rich tomato flavor but beyond that there was nothing. Your crust/dough had a good flavor, but it was almost sweet like there was too much sugar in the dough and undercooked in the outer crust of the pizza where it was almost doughy.

Ordered a pepperoni pizza and a cheese pizza the second time to give y'all a second chance because I thought your crust and sauce had potential. I was mistaken, they were almost the same the second time. Good tomato-y flavor but nothing beyond. Better crust that time, less sweet, still undercooked and doughy. We could literally pour grease off the pepperoni pizza, and the pepperoni was still not that good. Cheese pizza was just ok, without a good base the cheese doesn't have its chance to shine.

So overall it was not great, and I stand by that. It also was not bad. It was only average and maybe good. Sure, I'd eat your food again, but I personally will not be ordering from yah again.

I'm not comparing you to fast food pizza. I'm comparing you to every pizza place in the area. There are ~10+ different pizza shops in Oxford alone that are not big chains, and I'll happily name 7 in Oxford that I guarantee have better pizza than your shop.

Sorry to hear it but it is not the customers' fault that you're having employment issues. Yes, everyone knows that employment is down, but could there be a reason you're having trouble...

My husband works out of town and we were stopping through Oxford for what I was hoping for a good bite to eat, Oxford always has spunky awesome restaurants we rarely have bad experiences, but I was very disappointed with this one. I’m a food goo rue so when I say I’m STARVING and my food was not good or satisfying that says a lot. First of all outside there was a sign saying a lunch special any 2 slices and drink. The worker only had what looked like an old cheese pizza that did not look fresh at all. How are you going to advertise but not have any pizza made? There was 1 worker and he did not seem enthusiastic at all… The place was dead, usually that doesn’t bother us because we enjoy low key places. We legit seen several customers walk in and walk out empty handed that says a lot. There was no music playing so it was kind of awkward. We ordered 2 pizzas and it cost us over 40 dollars that’s super expensive for lunch…So I was really disappointed when the food did not satisfy me. We ordered the “el chupcabra “and when I told my husband it had chicken on it but like you couldn’t even tell and. I wished there was more he was shook he said every piece he ate didn’t have 1 piece it also was supposed to have chipotle crema and the worker put straight buffalo sauce on it. It was terrible!! I honestly think it was laziness….This one was also done before the other pizza and he refused to serve it until our other one was done so it was cold by the time we ate it. The other pizza we ordered was the “Asbury” and it was fresh expect all the topping came off it tbh had better flavor than the other pizza and it was vegetarian… just messy. We were not served real plates he brought us stirrer-foam plates and used it to carry both pizzas to our table and let me say we had to put our hands on the warm pans to get to our plates. Very unprofessional. We asked for ranch to dip our pizza in and he gave us small packets of ranch like something your would get from a fast food places to dip chicken nuggets in. This is why I give 1 stars. Don’t go to this place based on google pictures your experience...

First off great pizza. Best in town since Soul Shine. However on Saturday April 02, 2022 I had an abnormally long wait on a pizza, when I walked in the there were two very swamped employees trying to take care of a full front of house and to go orders. The girl who was visibly nervous and upset told me it would be a bit longer, no problem. When I went back the "manager" had mysteriously materialized out of no where, as my pizza came out the manager slaps my pizza down barks an order at the girl about finishing my pizza, she was already helping another customer and asked him a question his response in front of both myself and another customer was this direct quote "I don't give a damn, I'm the manger cut the pizza and sell and do what I tell you" The girl stood there shell shocked as the manager turned his back to her.

What a representation of your business. I tried to tell the girl to keep her head up and that she was doing a good job but she was still in shock of being accosted by the bully this business put in charge on a Saturday night. Shameful!

UPDATE: October 06th 2023, called to place a pick up order, granted it was on a football weekend at 5pm, nonetheless the person answered the phone and said “Pizzashop what do you want?” I ask to place a pick up order to which the guy responded “yeah what do you want?” In an even more condescending tone. I asked for a large Da Vinci and wasn’t done stating my order when I was cut off and in a very ruse tone was asked “Is that it?” I asked to add mushrooms and again was met with the same question with the same rude tone. I said yes and he responded with “Name” I told him and he responded “Pick it up at 5:20” and hung up.

I’m not sure at what point good pizza is worth being treated like that. This the second poor experience I have had in about 18 months. I get that good help can be hard to find in a college...
