HC Seafood — Restaurant in Oxnard

Outrageous sanitation problems. Just waited an hour in line (not a huge deal in itself although it's a sign of their evident poor processes) so I had a lot of time to watch the kitchen staff. First thing that caught my eye was that every dish was washed with water, no soap, nothing. Old guy would scrub every dish with the same scrubber and toss it back onto the line for reuse. He sorted the stack of table trays by how dirty they appeared, and sent the ones "clean" back out for use. This is NOT ok! People ate off of that! The cooks handled all ingredients by hand, which is fine if you wash them after handling raw seafood, but in the hour I was there I didn't see a single staff member wash their hands. Order after order, handing all fish and vegetables and utensils, no hand wash. Soap dispenser was visible and completely full at 2:00 pm, which shows it's not being used. Left grill guy doesn't have enough space for his station so he uses the edges of the dirty dish sink for extra space, including his cutting board. I could go on, there's more - but I think I made my point. The food is good, but I will never go back. If this is what they do in plain view of customers, what are they doing...

we walked up and were a bit nervous based on the run down look, however, we are so glad we ate here. me, my wife, and 3 kids ate for less than 50$ and the food took less than 5 minutes to come out!! while we waited the kids got to look at the crab display where u can purchase crab by the pound. it can look a little intimidating at first, but just walk right in to the mini fish market, grab a menu off of the display case and order the best damn fish and chips i have had in years... crunchy and fresh fish, perfectly fried. my wife got grilled cod, cooked perfectly and super flavorful. got the shelled shrimp plate which turned out to be an awesome plate of 22 shrimps grilled/sautéed with bell peppers and veggies. cool experience for the kids and really good sea food. we will be back. service was super fast, and i can see how the language barrier would make some people think the owners were rude. they were not rude at all, just asian, so very fast and have an accent. still service with a smile!...

Been looking around for fresh seafood in the area and nothing seems to show up in my search engine. To be more specific, crabs. Stopped by here after the beach to pick a couple crabs & try their grilled prawns.

The options were plentiful for crabs, spider & rock crabs. The rock crabs were small and not very meaty but satisfied our cravings. The prawns were ok for our liking so I’d probably not order this again plus it was $46/lb and we literally only had maybe 6-8 prawns. Our total order was for 2 crabs and grilled prawns was $80. I think it’s ridiculous that they charge $1/lb more for steamed crabs.

The whole complex has no other businesses around so you’ll have free, ample parking. The seafood place itself wasn’t very busy and I mean, it was just 2 other people there for the whole 45 mins that we were there.
