We recently visited Grill 211 on two separate occasions, and unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired, especially when it came to service.
First Visit: We went to Grill 211 on a fairly busy night without a reservation and waited about 30 minutes to be seated. The hostess was very nice and attentive, but that was where the good service ended. The prices on the menu are quite high, so we expected a high level of service to match. Unfortunately, we waited over an hour and a half for our food before finally asking our server about the status. She went to check and assured us it was "on its way out," but twenty minutes later, we still had nothing. At that point, we asked for the food to-go, and it took another 10 minutes to get it. In total, it took two hours from the time we were seated to when we finally received our food.
To be fair, the food itself was very good. I had the pork chop, and my wife had pasta, and we both enjoyed our meals. However, our waitress showed no real concern for the delay or our satisfaction, which was disappointing given the circumstances.
Second Visit: Despite our first experience, we decided to give Grill 211 another try, mainly because there arenāt many restaurants open in Paducah on a Monday. This time, we sat at the bar, hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, it was more of the same. We ordered the same cocktails as our first visit, but they were completely different this timeāand not in a good way. I ended up sending my drink back and switching to a beer, while my wife chose to keep hers rather than deal with the hassle.
Again, the food was very good, which has been the one consistent highlight. However, the service was lacking. The staff seemed attentive when interacting with us but often forgot what we asked for as soon as they walked away. For example, my wife ordered a glass of wine that was never brought to her.
Overall Impression: While the food at Grill 211 has been consistently goodāweāve enjoyed all of the meals and appetizers weāve triedāthe service leaves a lot to be desired, especially given the high prices. Itās frustrating to see a team that seems well-meaning but struggles with follow-through and basic attentiveness. If Grill 211 could improve its service, it would be an excellent dining option, but as it stands now, the overall experience does not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's a great space with a cool atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service is slow to bumbling. The servers are friendly and genuine, but every time I visit, it seems serving people food and drinks is an afterthought. I don't think it's the staff, per se, it seems to be the style of service employed that leads to errors. All the staff works together to serve all the guests. This leads to confusion and mistakes.
On my most recent visit, they completely forgot one person's dinner. Mistakes happen, but it was one of many that evening. Plus, there are always notable mistakes when I visit. Earlier that same week, I was with a group of three, and one of us received the wrong dish. We didn't address it as it took a long time to get our food. Plus, we had three waiters and weren't sure who to flag down. Again they were always picking up slack and apologizing for each other.
The food is above average, but only slightly. Though, there are some hidden gems on the menu, though. Hopefully you'll love the their pasta as it comes served in a horse trough sized bowl. Unfortunately, I haven't had one I wanted to take the leftovers home.
But if you want to burn some hours with friends drinking inconsistent cocktails and food that never comes, this is your place.
With a little rework of the serving style, this could bea great restaurant. The owners have run some of my favorite restaurants before, but they don't seem to have a grasp managing this one, yet.
I look forward to seeing what improvements they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had really high hopes for this place but it just didn't meet our expectations.
Our server was very friendly but she came and took my drink order while he wasn't even at the table. Im not a big drinker so I ordered a coke and was informed that the only non alcoholic beverage they offer is tea or the coke they use to make drinks at the bar. I said the coke would be fine but it was flat, my second glass was slightly better but still not good.
I ordered the Margherita pasta with shrimp. It was good but the portions were awful- I was served a massive bowl of pasta with 5 shrimp on top. The shrimp weren't cooked properly because I couldn't get the tails off without losing most of the meat.
He ordered the steak gorgonzola that was supposed to have "28 day aged prime rib filet tips" on top. He was instead served a massive bowl of very watery pasta with thin strip steak on top that was very fatty. When he asked the server about the difference she wasn't sure so she grabbed a manager who checked with the chef and confirmed that they ran out of steak tips and were using a substitution but hadn't notified the servers. When he asked what the price difference would be the manager (who was initially pretty dismissive) told him there was no price difference... between 28 day aged prime rib and a thin strip steak. It wasn't until he pushed the issue that she offered to take $6 off and bring us a free dessert.
The dessert was the tiniest creme brulee I've ever seen but it was actually...
