For decades, the building that houses Paducah Beer Werks (PBW) was a Greyhound bus station. In the ‘50s and ‘60s when I was young, flying was exotic and expensive: Greyhound owned the road. The buses were shiny, their motors purred like kittens, the seats were plush and the interiors were cool and inviting. The drivers were handsome to a fault. They wore neat gray uniforms with sharply creased pants, and remained cheerful and confident even on stormy nights as they maneuvered the giant people carrier along slick, treacherous two lanes. Most important, the drivers knew how to roll up a section of the bus’s exterior to expose a large storage area for luggage, crates, and - if my grandmother was to be believed - little girls who didn’t behave while traveling. Greyhound has since fallen on very hard times. The 4th street station was closed in 2010 and converted to a brewery and restaurant in 2015. The change is to our benefit. PBW has a brewery on one side (offering award-winning craft beers) and a pub on the other offering paninis, pizzas, flatbreads, calzones, burgers and more. I always get the Blossom Burger. It’s got a killer sauce, fresh toppings (crisp bacon, fresh spinach and tomato, provolone cheese, onion straws) and a juicy, well-seasoned Angus steak patty. The iced tea is strong and the portions are generous. There’s a long bar on one side of the room with a friendly bartender and the servers are efficient; I’ve heard the place rocks after dark with live bands, comedy nights and open mike nights. There is also outside dining. Bonus: the huge ladies’ bathroom has five stalls in one section and four sinks in its anteroom, a carryover from its Greyhound days with one major difference: the rooms today are bright and sparkling clean. I’m kinda glad Greyhound is gone. As a child, I never believed I could be quite good enough to escape being confined in the secret compartment and forgotten as the bus carrying the smiling driver, my grandmother and the other passengers raced through the...
Read moreExtremely rude staff. We arrived and sat down. Waited 2hrs for our food and had drinks meanwhile. Then they come and tell us we HAVE to leave this table and sit somewhere else, eventho every other table was taken. They said this table was reserved and we had no right sitting there, but there was never a reserved sign in the first place. We told them we didn't want to leave and we already had ordered to which they said they would refuse to serve us food. They werre so rude, I can't believe they are still in business if they treat huge parties of 10, that leave a few hundred dollers there like this. My friend didn't end up getting up and they actually just cancelled her food. The rest of us decided to sit on a different table, and then noone ever even sat on that table that was apparently reserved. All of us definitely will not come again and don't recommend going here unless you like to be treated poorly. The only nice person was the dark haired waitress, who didn't seem to appreciate the way the other employees were treating us either. Good service but seriously...
Read moreWe visited PBW on Thursday 18th Nov 2021. I have to tell you my wife and I enjoyed our experience of trying several items on their menu. My wife loved their special sauce with the best fries we have had in years. The fries came with their awesome burger which in of its self was tasty and satisfying. I ordered Onion Rings and their specialty Pepperoni rings with Parmesan cheese. The onion rings are hand made and seasoned perfectly. Best I have had the pleasure to eat in several years. Light, crispy and sweet. What can I say about the Pepperoni rings, they were unique and delicious. They were nice and crispy with parmesan sprinkles and that perfect spicy kick good Pepperoni should have. Could not stop eating them. Would be perfect with a beer. I don’t write reviews often, but I just had to express our joy of the good service and excellent eats at PBW in Paducah KY. It is well worth a...
