Angel's Dining Car — Restaurant in Palatka

I used to come here every year with my parents when I was a kid, before moving to Europe …. And so I wanted my wife to discover it too during our road trip in the south to uncover my heritage.

It was a surprise … but unfortunately not the kind people like …

Not their fault, but the diner was full so we had to seat outside. Not a problem for us , the weather was great … but that was the only thing great here.

Before looking at the menu we ordered ONE soda , to the little brunette (my wife avoiding sugar for medical reasons ) , and We got ONE EACH … Ok well , Maybe she didn’t understand, Maybe it was a mistake , Maybe she didn't try to make us pay for two...🤷‍♂️ who knows … We didn’t say anything yet, but asked for a glass of water that we never received.

When she came back, I asked for pancakes , it was 10:45am, and the little brunette said that the kitchen was closed for breakfast …. Ok well, Weird but what could we say ? I asked why but she said “it’s our policy” with such an attitude. At this point I started to lose faith and my wife looked at me as we started to understand that there was a problem.

I really wanted pancakes and nothing else , but didn’t wanted to argue or starve so I just politely ordered a grilled cheese instead (same for my wife) …. And the little brunette looked annoyed , rolling her eyes and sighed longly … she asked me if I wanted French fries and I said “no thanks” . (I want pancakes not French fries !!! ) anyway …

45min later , we finally got our two boring grilled cheese. Not bad but flat and boring. I do the same everyday at home in less than 5 min … and I’m not a chef. Nothing special about it. But guess what ???? The grilled cheese came with a lot of French fries and the little brunette sent her colleague (this one was nice don’t worry) to delivered it to us , as I think she just wanted to get rid of us. So I said to her colleague that we say “no” to French fries … she looked surprised and probably understood looking at us that we had enough of the situation. (Her colleague probably complained to her about us while they were inside the diner) We didn’t touched the fries and went inside to pay … The brunette had no choice but to take payment as she was the one at the register. I asked for a Soda refill , and with a mean tone she told me to lift the lid for her …. But how would she have done if I had asked her when we were still outside eating ?? … some customers looked at us and started to laugh at her as everyone saw how ridiculous it was. They didn't seem to have the best experience with her either …

Probably the oldest Diner but if people like her keep working here , it will die from a bad reputation in no time . So sad to see icons dying … it was definitely better in my memory.

We will never why the brunette acted like this , maybe because my wife is a foreign , maybe she was in a bad mood , maybe she had a bad week but we paid the price and for no reason.

Ps: we ended up in another diner 5min from there , with a nice waitress , and PANCAKES (at 11:50am … how crazy is...

We tried to eat there today. We walked in, saw two waitresses as soon as we walked in the door but no one really said anything to us. It’s not that big of a place. We saw an open table and sat down. The table was still greasy and had food debris on it. One of the waitresses made eye contact with us and watched us wiping down the table (with napkins and hand sanitizer). She turned and walked away. We figured she was getting menus, but never came back. We saw her at the opposite end of the diner and again made eye contact with both women who appeared to be waitresses. Neither came to our table. About 10 minutes later, a couple walked in and also were not greeted. They saw an open table beside us and stood there for a minute. When no one spoke to them, they went ahead and sat down. Their table was also dirty. One of them started looking around for a waitress, and immediately (the one with glasses who watched us cleaning our own table) they were provided with menus and what appeared to be paper place mats. She asked them how they were doing and then hustled off to get something they asked for. We all looked at each other and instantly agreed that this place was not for us. The waitresses were not friendly at all. They also were not taking care of cleaning or waiting on customers. Well, maybe they were waiting on customers that they chose to help. I’ve never seen such poor service. We left and went to Huddle House and we were instantly greeted by three employees the SECOND that we walked in. We were immediately told that we could sit anywhere. There were only a couple open tables, but at least they were clean. We were served drinks and put our order in, in less than the amount of time that we sat in Angels. What a sad place that is. We thought it would be a cute place to share our first meal of the new year. I would advise anyone to avoid it, and choose anywhere else. There are some really cute places in Palatka, and you’ll find better service at any of them. Angels was a huge disappointment. Would...

I might not be liked for this one but this my rating & I was unimpressed w the food so much I just can't rate it anything else. Heard about this place, saw this place had to go, probably won't ever go back. Sat outside, was extremely hot...we live in FL surprised they don't have more than two fans...that is my only reason for 4 stars on Atmosphere. Service was awesome except the waitress sat her butt on the table we were going to eat off of while we ordered. Had to go in for refills which was fine we were leaving anyway. The bathrooms r tiny...I'm claustrophobic THANK GOD for the large window.

Then there's the food...The Coke was refreshing, sizes r small wow how times have changed. Really wanted a milkshake but could not justify 6.10 for it. We went as a group...my roommate was the only one happy w his food but I don't know that he had, had any gizzards in so long to compare them w. It was Friday, chicken day so my fiance ordered the 3 piece w fries. He got the only deal of the day, however there weren't enough fries & the chicken was beyond dry. Which leaves us to my food...wish I had tried their Famous Burger...I panicked. I ordered a BLT which for almost 8 should come w fries....so I order a thing of fries too...again, not enough fries. Blt was good enough.

So overall it was not a good food journey. On to the next spot. Definitely glad I can say I've been. Sad it wasn't a...
