Charleys Cheesesteaks & Wings — Restaurant in Palm Bay

First visit to the NEW location on Babcock St in Palm Bay. I understand they're new so I'll give them a 2nd try but my first visit wasn't good!

I decided to do the drive thru. I tried to keep it as close to an authentic Philly as possible. I only wanted grilled mushrooms, grilled onions & cheese on my Philly, however I did allow mayo this time. I opted out of the lettuce, tomato, pickles & green peppers. (*Online, their options had White American cheese as an option.)

When I was placing my order, I asked for white American but the young man told me they didn't have white American and had a cheese sauce instead. I opted for the cheese sauce, which sounded more 'real' Philly style. I think he told me their cheese options were provolone, Swiss, maybe Cheddar or pepper jack (not sure!) & the cheese sauce, so I went cheese sauce!

Result: The fries weren't that fresh and minimal at best. I wasn't expecting a Five Guys portion but man was Charley's portion pitiful this time. The regular sized cup itself wasn't even full! I usually snack on the fries as I drive home but I didn't touch the fries and was expecting a decent fair amount of fries and that they'd be somewhat fresh but was sorely disappointed, they were just ok and the sandwich was wrong! My sandwich was meat and provolone cheese only!!! That's it! Although, I do like provolone, I don't like provolone on my Philly!

There was also some gristle in my steak which understandably naturally occurs in steak but I haven't had too many Philly's with gristle pieces in it!?!?

I called and spoke with the manager on duty and they're supposed to replace my meal on my next visit. So, I'll see how that goes and update here......

I went into Charley's on a whim and ordered a regular Philly cheese steak sandwich, fries and some boneless wings (since they were discounted on Tuesdays). What a complete disappointment.

For one, the Philly cheese steak was the skimpiest amount of meat I have ever seen, even for fast food. Secondly, the cheese steak did not come with much bell peppers, onions (or even jalapeños, which I added) and the sandwich was mostly bread and filler like lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. Lastly, the fries were not very fresh, although they do use raw potatoes, and this did not make much sense to me either. The boneless wings were totally dry of any sauce or flavoring and I only ate a few of them and just threw out the rest (they were really that bad and I usually do not waste my food).

This is my honest assessment and I was disappointed and won't be back anytime soon. I downloaded their app to get $5 off my meal, but it was still $14+, which was a joke, so I immediately uninstalled the app when I thought about my experience to write...

My first time with this place and I went because of the flyer in the mail. I'm always on the hunt for a good cheese steak. The service was fast and friendly. The app for charley's worked great and there was no confusion with the mail in coupons. The food even has a good presentation with a nice box as opposed to a bag like most sub places. If you're on the go, you have a chance at eating it while you drive.

So why a 3?

The fries were decent. But the cheese steak had no taste. It was very bland - tasted like a pile of frozen steamums. I wasn't looking to be impressed. I suppose in a pinch it's better than mcDs. For all of the crazy toppings they do with the fries, they really need to add some salt/pepper/garlic - something - to the cheese steak. Better than subway? Yes. But here in Melbourne FL we have jersey mike's. And whatever they add to those cheese steaks far outclasses this.

TLDR: Decent in a pinch. Go to Jersey Mike's instead for something fast. Service and smiles was very fast...
