TLDR: Over priced for a not fully available menu of mostly middling food. The only exception is if you want only a lot of three or four types of sushi.
We went during the soft opening, so expectations were tempered. This is an all you can eat, but not a buffet. You order items that you'd like as you go, which is fine except their kitchen is split between the sushi and everything else... and I feel like there is only one person working the everything else. We ordered multiple items from both sides and the uncooked sushi items were received in a few minutes, but multiple times through the meal the non-sushi items were taking between 10 and 20 minutes each to the point that other servers, specifically Mason who was the best employee at the location, made statements along the lines of "you're STILL waiting?" So, yes, there's no consistency with the kitchen.
There are a few stand out items, such as the tuna (NOT the spicy tuna), salmon, and red snapper sushi, Dynamite roll, and tempura sweet potato, but that's about it. Between three of use we tried everything on the lunch menu (that was available, there were multiple items including all deserts that were just not available) and the best I can say for the rest of the food was, it's mediocre. Their sauces for egg rolls, fried dumplings, and tempura is like watered down soy sauce, not ideal for dipping or, you know having a flavor. The tempura batter is hit or miss with the vegetables being the right thickness, but the shrimp being mostly tempura to the point that the shrimp could not really be tasted. The noodles are very oily, and the white rice is both underheated AND overcooked. Which is funny because the sushi rice for the uncooked fish is hot and also not real sushi rice (its like they just used warm rice out of the rice cooker).
Our server Kyle was a nice gentleman that was obviously trying really hard, but just couldn't keep it together with multiple tables. More than a few times he came back to see if we were ready for the next item and we had to explain that we were still waiting for the last set of things we ordered from him. Again shout out to Mason who was not our server, but went out of his way to try to help us with the missing items. He is also the one who had to explain to us that a good 20% or more of the menu was just straight up not available. This is why they are currently running a 10% discount, which would be fine except for the fact that you are not told there are no deserts, the bar is not open, and other menu items are not available until AFTER you have been seated and placed orders. We had been looking forward to trying the green tea ice cream, and even after telling us that the pineapple rice we wanted was not available we did not find out that there are NONE of the listed deserts until we tried to order them at the end of the meal. And, again with the exclusion of Mason, none of the staff even seemed apologetic. More of "we don't have that, get over it" mentality.
For $18.88 per person, which is more than the Saturday price for the Young's Buffet all day dinner, you get a not full menu of mostly over/under cooked items that will arrive... at some point (except uncooked sushi, those sushi chefs were expedient) that basically taste... meh. Again, the best I could describe Sunshine is "mediocre". Also, don't expect to be able to get a better bang for your buck ordering a la carte. The vegetable tempura that one person at my table ordered because they weren't be into sushi is literally four pieces of tempura veggies. One piece of broccoli, one piece of sweet potato, one piece of zucchini, and one piece of onion. It does come with a small bowl of soup and rice, but again their white rice leaves A LOT to be desired. Also the "vegetable noodles" is noodles with some cabbage.
It was worth trying this place out, especially since the Japanese buffet that occupied the location before this was one of the best in the area, but we will not be going back for a second visit. First impressions matter and this...
Read moreI have been eating at sunshine sushi since the first week it opened. Almost always at lunch, which I find to be the best deal. I have not had one single bad meal or even a bad food items there. Not one bad experience. . I have been there at least 20 times in its first few months and have brought seven different people to the restaurant. The service has always been friendly and very efficient. every person I brought with me enjoyed it and has been back themselves. I have gone to sushi factory, both locations in Melbourne, (which is a similar type of restaurant) , and have left their dissatisfied numerous times. I stopped to going to SF all together. Always a problem. I like the Chinese buffets that serve sushi well enough , but no matter when I went the food was never really fresh in comparison so I just stick to sunshine. Sun shine sushi is always clean. Always friendly and seems to be well run and food comes out quickly; hot and fresh.. And thats The thing I like best about sunshine Sushi. Every item you order is made right when you order it (except for the soup I am assuming but the soup is good to) so its fresh. The things like spring rolls and the Goyza and chicken and shrimp tempura come out crispy. Not all limp and soggy like it's been sitting under a warm in the light forever. No kids running around licking in the spoons. No mess. we just sit and relax and enjoy your food as it comes out. I read the one star reviews and couldn't believe the negative comments. I am usually hard on restaurants and I can't understand how my and my friends experience at this restaurant could be so different. I'm thinking the negative reviews are from the competition or something like that. my only complaint would be I wish they had eggrolls and wonton soup. but I get plenty full without those items so it's not that big of a deal. They have a regular menu. If you don't want to do all you can eat, but from what I can see, at lunch at least , if you get a lunch special and one extra item, you might as well spend another dollar or two and get all you can eat. if you were a light eater, they have some 1295 lunch specials which is what my wife got the first time she was there and she was very happy but now she gets all you can eat so she could have...
Read moreI have been to many sushi establishments across the U.S. and even some in Japan. For purposes of this review I will only compare Sunshine Sushi to the American establishments I have visited, because it’s only fair. Sushi in Japan is simply in a different league.
We were greeted and seated promptly in a comfortable booth. The restaurant is spacious and beautiful. Decor is fresh, modern, and tasteful. Our server Zheng was absolutely amazing and attentive- drinks were constantly filled and he constantly checked if we wanted to order more food. In addition he was very polite and hospitable.
The food was plentiful and delicious. The sashimi was very fresh and full of flavor compared to many other places. You also have a large selection of specialty rolls and the usual hand rolls. All prepared fresh and very delicious. The all you can eat (which I highly recommend) also allows you to order appetizers such as shumai, takoyaki, gyoza, etc. I tried each of them and all were exceptional and served piping hot. You can also order various tempuras, katsu, fried rice, and noodles. Overall a large selection of scrumptious Japanese foods. I’m leaving out some other items like soups and salad type appetizers, but they were all good too. I was very impressed with the overall quality and freshness of the raw fish and sushi. The scallop sashimi, in particular, was amazing and sweet. The specialty rolls were beautifully presented and had great flavor combinations. Perhaps not the most innovative of all time, but consider that I have been to over 150 sushi joints across the U.S. the value is also exceptional. Adult dinner AYCE is under $30 per person and kids under 11 are much less. This is a rare find in my opinion. Brevard lacks AYCE sushi spots, so make this one a “must visit” on your list!!! You will NOT be disappointed! Overall an amazing experience! Highly...
