Winchell's — Restaurant in Palm Desert

This was always our favorite nearby donut spot for years. The donuts were just always really great quality and the service was great too. They made one of the best cruelersI’ve ever had in my life! Over the past year or so, the quality has just completely fallen off. Came in today for a full dozen to feed a house full of visiting kiddos. Even the children were uninterested in finishing their donuts and we threw half of the dozen away. The apple fritter was a dry lump without any of the crispy chunky texture, you would want in a fritter. Glazed crueler looked like it was about five days old even though I suspect everything was made fresh. It had a strange dried out look to the glaze. The maple crueler was very lopsided and shrinking on one side. My kid threw half of it in the trash because he said it tasted bad. Everything kind of tasted like it was cooked in two week old fry oil that was also used to make Chinese food. Chocolate twist was about half the length they used to be.

Not sure if the place is under new ownership, but the donuts went from excellent to pretty lousy. Service was not like it used to be either. Really a shame and I hope they can turn it around. Will try other places for a while and check...

I walked in about 9:30 pm Oct.2 and the young lady said Hello and was pleasant and she smiled. She said "Oh, what a cute dog you have." The older lady peeked around the doughnut case and said YOU CANT BRING YOUR DOG IN HERE!!!" "Whoa!. Lady! My dog's name is Charley and he is a Sevice dog" i answered. " Said she didnt care and she wasnt going to sevice me and told me to get out with my dod again. I told her that was discrimination and I told get what my Dr said about people not liking dog's so she said she was going to call the police if Ididnt get out. I left . She was very rude and Because she a bad tsste in my mouth about doghnuts, I woll never go to a whinchelles...

I live in Phoenix Az but when we come to visit our daughter in Palm Desert Ca, our first call before the dog park the following early am is Winchell’s. The gentleman who seems to always be there early am, is very engaging, sharply put together and I will say always super cheerful, and always thanks you for your business and wishes you a safe day as you leave. They are open 24/7 and the store is spotless and always smells fresh. Their coffee is perfect and of course their donuts cannot be beat and their prices fits everyone’s pocket book. Please give...
