Loco Charlie's Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Palm Springs

Delicious food but service needs improvement. I have been to Loco Charlie's twice now in Palm Spring and I will keep coming back. The food is delicious, restaurant is clean and pricing is decent.

However, the service needs definite improvement. Twice, the waiters/servers forgot what I ordered. The last time I was here, the server forgot to input my entree into the system so I had to flag down the waiter after an hour wait. He was apologetic. I don't blame him on the mistake. I think they are short-staffed and the ordering system is flawed. *I wished they would have given me a discount or taken care of me on the mistake since I waited for a very long time and many tables after me had finished their meal before I was served.

The servers are great and friendly people but the ordering system they have is confusing for the customer and even the workers themselves. The restaurant doesn't know if they want to be a self-serving or a sit down restaurant. Many customers coming in don't know if they need to be seated by the server or they have to order at the counter. I suggest management rethink their ordering system. Make up your mind if you want to be a self-serving or sit down restaurant. Also, they should do-away the call button on the tables. It doesn't work and it just shows lack of awareness by workers at the restaurant.

I recommend that they change the ordering system so the servers don't have to go to tables to take orders. I think customers should just order everything at the counter and get a number card so they can be served by the restaurant if they decide to eat at the restaurant. I think self-serving system is the way to go.

I hope the owner or the management see this post. I love their food and I will be back when I visit Palm Springs again. They just need to reorganize and revamp their ordering and servicing system in...

Atmosphere: very charming design and layout. Tables are just a cheap plywood folding table that have been painted. Mine was covered in dust from wind earlier in the day and never got wiped down. I didn’t ask either so it’s less of a complaint and more of an observation. Love the covered outdoor patio though.

Chips and salsa: they brought out a big cup of mild salsa and 4 smaller salsas/dips. I mixed on of the really hot salsas into the mild and it was perfect. The salsa had really a great taste and the kick of the habanero salsa helped it out a lot. Consistency was a little watery but flavor made up for it. Chips were thin and cooked to perfection Good and drink: Jamaica from the fountain and 2 enchiladas is what I ordered. Fresh Jamaica would have been much better. The enchiladas came out within 5 minutes of me ordering. This actually concerned me because it’s clear they weren’t fresh and we’re a little tough, but were better than I expected. Dessert: I ordered the flan, and it was the best flan I’ve ever eaten. Consistency, texture, taste, and presentation were all on point. I was blown away by how good it was. Service: very friendly. I tried to get a little info about the history, etc and didn’t really get an answer but they are great servers. Charlie even put his phone number on the menu in case of any problems. That speaks volumes. Price: beyond fair. With dessert and 20% tip included, I was out the door for under $25 for one person.

I will visit again and hopefully can have a 5 star...

On September 8th, 2022, my partner Anna & I were in Palm Springs, CA for the very first time and decided we needed a Mexican Food fix. After searching trip advisor, we decided to try Loco Charlie's Mexican Grill for lunch. As we approached the premises, we were immediately impressed with the large festive outdoor patio. As we entered inside, we were immediately greeted by Charlie (the owner) who warmly welcomed us while introducing himself. Seconds later, we were seated at a lovely table and our server "Berto" came over. Again, the enthusiasm of the staff was absolutely incredible and the food was outstanding. This was an exceptionally wonderful experience as the restaurant and staff create a very cool vibe and create an atmosphere that you want to keep returning to. As we finished our excellent meal (both had Burritos... which were 15 out of 10), Charlie returned to chat with us and learned that we were from Canada. He is an extremely warm and friendly proprietor and truly respects & appreciates his staff as was evident by how everyone interacted. We would STRONGLY recommend you make Loco Charlie's your "go to" place for excellent Mexican cuisine as you will not be disappointed. I would rate this restaurant, food, staff, service and overall experience along with Loco Charlie himself..... a 25 out of 10.....Please do yourself a favor...eat at Loco Charlie's Mexican Grill...you WILL NOT be disappointed.
