Normally, I really love Slice House! Today was definitely the exception. We walked in the door around 1:20pm. There were 5 people sitting at the bar, no other customers in sight, and no pizza being made. All of the customers at the bar had already been served either food or drinks. There was an overweight female with dark hair wearing a grey shirt behind the bar. I never picked up a menu. I already knew what I needed to order and had my card in hand. During the time I stood waiting on this women to take my order, she proceeded to come to the register and go back to the bar three times. Never once looking up at me or issuing any greeting or even acknowledgment that I was standing there. Extremely rude. After serving the 4 men at the bar again, she proceeded to have a brief conversation with the elderly woman at the bar who wasn’t ordering before eventually sauntering over to the register a solid 15minutes after I had walked in the door. She took my order ignoring the fact that I was ordering a bottle of water and an entire pie. Instead the charged me for a slice and ran my card before listening to be correct her. I then had to deal with a refund and then being charged again but this time for the correct amount. I assume because she never told me my total. I very clearly told her it was for “here” not to go, she handed me my table marker, and I went to my table. During the time I was sitting outside waiting on my pizza with my 3 children, I saw every single customer who had been sitting at the bar finish their food and exit the building. After 30 minutes, I walked back inside to ask where my pizza was only to find this female was in the kitchen stuffing her face with pizza. Which I’m firstly positive is a health code violation. She took one look at me, tried to hide what she was eating, and took my fully cooked pizza out of a warmer and proceeded to pretend she was just pulling it out of the oven and it had just finished cooking. I could see from the counter that it wasn’t hot not to mention she kept touching it with her ungloved unwashed hands she had just hand in her mouth. She finally brought me the pizza with her bare hands touching the metal making it extremely obvious it wasn’t hot. I took my pizza and went outside. My pizza was barely warm. It was obvious she had made no effort to serve the pizza even to the extent of on purpose ignoring me. I am extremely disappointed that someone so lazy, nasty, and careless is allowed to work there. If I ever go back in there and see her working, we will be turning around and leaving. I do not ever want to order from or have my food made by this...
Read moreThe food is okay & beers are great, but the prices are too high for what you get. I'll break this down into 2 categories since they deserve to be rated differently.
Food: Pizza & other dishes that are an interesting twist on a traditional NYC pizza joint. The size & ingredients are spot on. However they use too much oil in the pies & that turned me off. I'd suggest asking for less oil to resolve this. However NY Famous can do extra toppings & a (very close) to NY quality Pizza (I'm from NYC) for $20 while these guys are charging $30. I don't see value here. The apps are nice but once again heavy hitting on the wallet.
Drinks: The craft beer menu changes weekly so don't expect to come back & find a favorite. However the quality is good to amazing. The drawback is some beers are over $8-$10 a glass! Sorry I enjoyed it but you just guaranteed that I could buy most of this off Amazon or other places rather than going out.
Ambiance: It's hot, & often sorta exposed to the elements & the heat from the kitchen gets to you. Being so small & cramped doesn't help. Have 4 people? You're going to be stuck outside. This brings me back to my point of why should I pay to come use you as a bar when you're charging so much when I can stay home for cheaper & be in air conditioning & no flies bugging me always in my food and/face.
Overall: Putting my Gordon Ramsey hat on: These guys try. They have talent. They have a good idea. They are in a bad location that doesn't fit what they are trying to do. If they moved to a bigger place, had better climate control, kept a few beers for awhile, & rotated others out so there was some predictablility, which would draw loyalists back, & dropped prices by about 25%-33% they could pull enough volume sales to make up for any other short falls.
I think they are trapped between a rock & a hard place & will have to rely on online/carry out orders to get by, but they don't even have an online site & when I asked them about doing such a thing - they said it was "too much work." In today's world it's not too much work. It actually runs itself & the word of mouth you get from it more than pays for itself. I wish them luck, but I don't see it lasting unless they move, & while they are nice people I don't see that "drive" & willingness to do anything to make it work that a small business needs. They go 80% not 110%. I'm not sure this place...
Read moreAll around terrible experience. This is a bar that serves pizza, not a pizza place that has alcohol. At approximately 3pm May 18th my wife and I decides to try a local spot we hadnt tried yet since we heard that the Slice House had great pizza. They do, well the first two or three bites and then it was black and burnt in a bubble like pattern. Both my wifes pizza and mine were this way. This really upset us because they had already forgotten our buffalo bread starter to which the waiter just said "sorry that happened do you want it now." Well, we dont eat starters last so we declined the offer. When a waitress noticed we were not eating and asked if everything was ok, that is when we showed the black bottom of the 4 slices. One bite actually felt like a bb got bitten down on. The waiter (maybe owner/manager) came back out and said he would remake it if it was too crispy. He kept saying too crispy like we were being picky. Black burnt bubbles to where you cant taste the pizza is not too crispy, its burnt. We declined and said we would pay for the drinks but not the uneatten burnt pizza or missing starter. Now this made the guy get a tone with us when he said we didnt have to pay for anything if we weren't happy. This is why we didnt pay and left. We didnt even mention to him how the atmosphere was that of a slummy bar. They had frisbee golfers come in that were cussing saying the f word, gd, and other rude things but were never asked by management to stop. Two men were sitting at the bar passing a phone back in forth (right in front of my wife because we were in a booth behind it) with pictures of naked men. So if you don't mind a raunchy enviroment, burnt pizza, and being given an attitude than this is the place to go. I wish we would of took pictures of how burnt the pizza was to share. At least the first few bites of the warrior pizza was good and the blonde waitress with the tattoos...
