The full menu is not available quite yet, but they are serving fried chicken, jojos, coleslaw, macaroni and potato salad until later this week hopefully.
The chicken is pressure cooked (similar to KFC), but the quality is great. The skin and batter was crispy on the outside and the chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked. The spices in the batter were well balanced and delightful. The jojos were also hot and breaded and complimented the chicken well. The macoroni salad, though bought in, was great quality.
I usually stay away from fried chicken because it is too heavy and greasy, but Abe's place found the right balance here. Very excited to try their sandwiches including a new take on the old romanburger/hardhat and a brand new (don't expect the old sandwich build from the old place) Dagwood of their own.
Only downside is the place is still being populated with equipment and product, so the menus weren't quite up yet and the shelves were pretty bare. However the owner said they should be ready to serve most or all of their menu in the coming week. I can't wait to see how the restaurant and menu comes together in the coming weeks. Definitely worth a try. I will be visiting any time I am in the area myself.
Edit 6/20/23 Sandwiches have been added including Philly Steak, pastrami and burger subs like the nephew Burger (a roman burger or hardhat with pepperoni added). We ordered a pastrami, a Philly steak and a nephew Burger. I thought the pastrami was excellent while my dad, who isn't particularly fond of pastrami, said it was okay. Philly steak was reported as "good". Nephew Burger's unique addition of pepperoni to the cooked salami adds a little bit of variety and spice I welcomed in a burger like this.
Edit 6/28 This place is rockin and rollin now. Most sandwich offerings are available, the shelves are lively and populated and they got a menu screen up! Awesome progress and so far I have loved everything on the menu. Great job...
Read moreUncle Abe's is a place in Parma, Ohio that everyone was excited about. Problem is, a lot of people are still excited about it. Meaning it's ALWAYS a wait here. Several times the doors have been locked during business hours because one person can't keep up with the demands. I personally have ordered here several times because I like the food and in all honesty, I feel bad for the owner. The guy works his rear off and can't keep consistent help(like most food service industry places these days). There's been some sketchy people there a few times so I can't rate the ambiance high at all. Once a guy (customer) was screaming profanity while children were there. Another time there were junkies exploiting his lobby and then his parking lot. I mean it's not his fault but I give honest reviews and what I think a family may want to avoid. The food, well there's a home run. Everything is delicious from the chicken to the gyros and everything in between. But once again, there's times you may have to be EXTREMELY PATIENT. Fryers going down or like mentioned before, the owner is trying to do everything himself. Once this place is established there's no doubt it'll succeed, just know that until then, you may wanna feel it out...
Read moreThere have been a few places in this building since Authur Treachers closed in this same location years ago. So I thought I would give this place a try. They have a variety of selections to choose from. They have fried chicken, gyros, JoJo's, Reubens, sandwiches, and subs.
All of their subs and sandwiches are fresh and made to order, so there is absolutely no chance of getting a sandwich that has been sitting around waiting for the next victim.
I got a ham, turkey, roast beef sub that had onion, lettuce, and tomato on a sub roll. I thought the sandwich was a tad high in cost, but it had a good portion of meats on the sub, so I was not disappointed at all. They just brought out a freash batch of fried chicken that smelled really good.
There were about 5 people either coming in or leaving here, so I assume that they have a good turnaround of patrons, which is a good sign. I think I will try the chicken on my next trip in. This place is...
