Average is the best way i can possibly sum up this place today. Came here today for happy hour that started at 4. Bartender was really nice and he made me an awesome pomegranate martini. He gave me a happy hour menu that included food and drinks so after ordering the martini i selected the petite filet medallions with shrimp. When the food came out the plate had to literally come out of the oven because i almost burned my hand. How can you not warn anyone?! The filet was overcooked at medium well. I ordered medium rare. The shrimp were nice and meaty but only had seasoning on one side.. Why?! It tasted like some type of cajun seasoning that wasn't spicy..it was good but needs a little bit of salt. Biggest turn off was the oily plate. I mean RIDICULOUSLY oily! If they transferred the food from the plate in the oven to another clean (but less) hot plate after resting the steak, not only would i have not almost burned myself but the shrimp wouldn't have to be mixed with the oil that has the red steak juices in there. Just a hot mess of a small sized plate and loads of unnecessary extra oil (or butter) that takes away from the flavor. Overall the quality is good and i just feel with another step or 2 of detailed effort with plating, Seasoning and food temperature control (steak) that it would make the experience so much better. I know presentation means a lot but in order for it to be effective just do it right! Why have someone take points off for a genuine effort that lacks execution? Just put the steaks on another bigger plate with shrimp on the side and even offer the customer a sauce on the side like a au poivre as an example (upcharge). What's wrong w that? Then there's a little more room with no mess! Also i was bummed out that the people next to me got to order from the regular menu. I had myself set on a filet and lobster tail but the bartender never offered me that option (since its not on the happy hour menu) but offered it to other guests at the bar i was at. I was told on the phone prior from a lady that the regular menu started at 5pm. Anyway.. I used a gift card someone gave me (thankfully) because if i paid money it wouldn't have been worth the 120 bill (including gratuity). Overall i think il come back for one more try but if you are looking for an upscale flawless experience my opinion is to find a Morton's Steakhouse in your area. I have no affiliation with them just being honest w my review and...
Read moreChas and I were able to meet up at this Ruth's Chris location in Parsippany, New Jersey last week. This was not his first time visiting a Ruth's Chris but it was my first time. I was cautiously optimistic. I will start by saying that I have had a lot of great steaks in a lot of great steakhouses around the country...but oftentimes find I can make one just as good at home.
We started with some adult beverages. Chas decided to get an Old Fashioned so I figured I'd get a Manhattan to check them against each other. I am normally a bigger fan of an Old Fashioned but this Manhattan was definitely better. Pro Tip - If you prefer an Old Fashioned, the bar inside the hotel just past the restaurant made a good one.
I personally did not order any appetizers but I did try a couple from around the table. Chas got the Ruth's chopped salad and Val got the Lobster Bisque. The salad was unique and looks like it was built inside a ring. The flavors were good, nothing insane, but good. The Lobster Bisque was velvety and had a solid lobster flavor. I personally would not pay the cost for these items, but that's not to say they were bad in any way at all.
Samantha and I split the Porterhouse for Two and for the table we had fried potatoes and grilled asparagus. The steak was cooked exactly to medium rare as requested and as expected from this company, was covered in butter. Great flavor to the steak, you can absolutely tell that it is a quality sourced piece of meat. The grilled asparagus was pretty standard honestly. It was good, but nothing I'd spend much time elaborating on.
I then had a "Ruth's Coffee" for dessert. This had - Frangelico, Bailey's Irish cream, brandy, fresh brewed coffee, whipped cream, and drizzled chocolate. This was similar to the "Cappuccino Bern's Steakhouse" from Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa, Florida. Very good drink, I'd definitely order that again.
You pay for your meal here, that's for sure. No way around spending a lot of money when you come here, but if the food and drinks are worth it...then it's worth it. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse -...
Read moreTook a party of 6 out for my husband's birthday to enjoy a steak dinner. We all were very pleased with our meal choices and the friendly and attentative staff. Ruth's Chris is an expensive restaurant and everything is a la carte. The wait staff know to tell you this upon ordering. One nice caveat is that the sides are quite large and most can feed two people. Drinks were properly made and quite good. I tried a new Cabernet Savignon and loved it. Daou from Pasa Robles, California and I can't wait to have it again as I loved the rich and weighty flavor and the perfume of fruits like cherry and black raspberries. For appetizers we ordered the spicy shrimp which was absolutely perfection. The calamari had a nice spicy heat to it as well. The lobster bisque ordered by two in our party was finished quickly and said to be one of the best they had. Dinner was predominantly filet Mignons and one T-bone. All came to the table with delightful flair as they sizzled from the kitchen with the intoxicating aroma wafting about. The sides we tried were fully loaded baked potatoes which could feed two people. Creamed spinach a favorite of mine as it is so creamy and light and a perfect side for steak. Lastly the Brussel sprouts were a hit roasted and topped with bacon and honey butter. For dessert the waitress served my husband a piece of chocolate cake and we sang to him cheerfully. Then ordered cappuccinos and coffees with two more orders of their bread pudding. We ended up with to- go boxes for a few items but thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate. There was snow falling outside as we ate in a booth by the front windows, it was picture perfect until the power went out and we sat in table lit darkness for 10 minutes or so. It only added to the beauty of the night as the wait staff made sure everyone was okay and then went back to dinner service when the lights...
