I tried Woon for the first time today as I've been hearing great things from the LA location but sadly, I was utterly disappointed in the quality of food that was provided.
My partner and I ordered the Chinese five spice wings, Beef noodles, and pork over rice and it was not good at all.
The Wings: These came out instantly. I didn't know it wasn't made to order (it was also luke warm). They were crispy yet, slightly soggy and lacked flavor. All I tasted was salt on these. I would recommend going a little heavier on the spices and less on the sodium. Maybe even add a little honey for a glaze.
The Noodles: The noodles came quickly, also luke warm, after the wings, which made me think this was just made in a batch (I could be wrong, I hope I am). As for the taste, the texture of the noodles were good. Everything else in terms of flavor was just sodium. There was no depth to the bowl at all.
The Rice: This was arguably the worst out of the three. The Rice itself was disgusting. It was soggy and I'm not sure if this is the usual rice you eat in Chinese cuisine or if it was just prepared incorrectly. Rice is a big part of Chinese cuisine so if that's not good, it sets the bar for the rest. The pork itself was tender but it lacked flavor.
What I do want to call out on a good note was the ambiance and friendly service. The chili crunch was delicious so I have to give credit where credit is due.
Overall, I don't recommend this place for their food, especially since I don't think this is made to order for the wings and noodles. I do recommend this place for a quick bite, friendly service, and good ambiance.
I hope the kitchen staff takes these comments as constructive and I hope to try this...
Read moreWoon is one of my favorite go-to spots for comforting, delicious food with an amazing vibe! It’s super kid-friendly. My little ones love the noodles, fried rice, and chicken wings. Don’t be fooled by how the portions look, the noodle and fried rice servings are generous and satisfying! There’s plenty of parking, including the big lot across the street that's open for Woon customers, which makes it super convenient.
They recently started brunch on the weekends, and I’ve been multiple times already. The milk tea French toast is heavenly, the rice porridge is so soothing, and the pork chop sandwich on a homemade pineapple bao bun is to die for. Don’t miss the bacon and egg fried rice either! Even if you’re just grabbing a coffee and pastry, it’s worth the visit. They offer beautifully curated pastries. The matcha cookie is a standout and the drink menu is top-notch. The Hong Kong coffee (a coffee-tea hybrid) is unexpectedly delicious.
What makes it even more special is that it’s family-owned, with recipes inspired by Mama Fong’s home cooking. You can really feel the heart and soul in every dish. Go support this gem you’ll leave full and...
Read moreReally cute restaurant and all the staff were really friendly and kind. Food itself was pretty underwhelming - the noodles were super oily and the flavors just didn’t taste like what I expected Chinese food to taste like (and I’ve been to plenty of really great Chinese spots in the SGV). I don’t think this restaurant caters towards authentic Chinese cuisine, but rather more Americanized Chinese cuisine.
Overall the best thing we ordered was the toast with eggs, mainly because the toast was so soft and fluffy.
We saw that they were selling a pineapple bun with sesame filling for $10, which is really high for a small pineapple bun.
Chicken wings were juicy and tender, seasoned well 8/10
Fried rice with pork belly was just ok, would probably rate it a 6/10.
Beef noodles were super salty and the noodles were pretty hard, 4/10
Wood ear mushrooms didn’t have that distinct crunchy texture they normally have. Pretty soggy and flavor was just ok. 5/10
Pickled cabbage was so sour that our entire table decided not to eat it. 3/10
Portions are on the small side so you’ll need to order more than you think if you have a large group trying to do...
