So this place I feel like is overrated, maybe there are no really good Dominican bakeries in the area and people have settled for mediocre tastes. I ordered AND pre paid for a Dominican cake ( same day pick up). Unfortunately to get into Passaic yesterday there was an extreme amount of traffic way higher than normal traffic. It took us forever to get to Monroe & then cross the bridge over.. the street it’s located on is a Main Street and very busy.. there is metered street parking.
When we arrived the location was very dingy in the sense that the outdoor sign is practically faded all the way, you can only see minor outlines, when you enter it’s a bit messy looking, they need to organize and clean a bit more than what they’re doing. Staff was friendly in person and when I originally called to place the order.
While waiting to be attended to and inform the staff we were here for pick up.. we were on line & next as soon as we walked in.. yet somehow the staff literally walked over to people who entered after us and started taking their orders. We didn’t say anything to see how many people they would take.. it was a total of 4 people... no one was rude about it so we decided to just let it rock but we took mental note. By the time we were tended to my sister and I were starving, she points out to me.. oh I guess they don’t have empanadas here.. so I quickly browsed around and didn’t see any which I found extremely off because every Dominican bakery I’ve ever entered had a whole section for empanadas and certain fried appetizers... so I went back to the entrance area and looked over the counter which is semi higher than other bakery counters and saw they did have empanadas.. so we ordered a total of 14 empanadas for a dollar each ... these empanadas were smaller than my hand ( palm & fingers ) for all of us in the car.. & 4 chinola juice which were pretty great if you ask me and I’m an avid drinker of chinola juice.
Everyone complained about the small size.. & ham and cheese empanadas honestly where simply not it.. they tasted & looked like a 5 year old made them.. they tasted soooo weird no one could even explain the taste. Cheese empanadas were oily but fine. & the chicken empanadas were fine too.
We asked for dark blue designs for the bday cake.. we picked a white half pound dulce de leche filling... & the designs, it was a nice blue color, they do add a basic ribbon to match the blue color which was sort of out of place to be honest.. we all sort of wished they woulda asked us about that before adding it on the cake.
They nice lady packed up our cake, added tape on the box and placed the lid down with a minor push on the top to place the lid I guess all the way down.. the issue is when we got to our destination after an HOUR of traffic to a destination that was no exaggeration 12 minutes away normally. We opened the box and to our unfortunate surprise the frosting and design was on the lid, that minor push the lady did, completely ruined the top of the cake, barely leaving a couple of letters on the cake. We were so upset and disappointed, we called to see if they could give us some type of discount because of the inconvenience.. we told them we would send them photos. They had me on hold a couple of times for about 15 minutes to inform me the only option was to return back to the bakery so they could fix it.. the problem was the extreme traffic going back to the place besides the fact that we didn’t have time to even see if we coulda made it to the bakery because for us to have escaped Passaic in an hour returning with the cake we were making u turns and trying to avoid traffic but everyone was in standstill traffic.. we had to go to a nearby store and finesse the cake at this point.
The cake was OK... literally just OK. The filling of dulce de leche was the only thing we all could agree was the best part., the cake wasn’t moist like a Dominican cake.. it tasted a bit dry actually which is a huge turn off, everyone was Dominican eating the cake and we all dislike dry cakes. The frosting was...
Read moreI never take the time to post reviews but this time I had to. My experience with this bakery was the worst I ever had. Let me start by saying that when I initially called to order the cake, I was told my card was going to be charged $20 dollars but instead I was charged an extra $1.40 cents. This is something minimal and is not going to make richer or poorer but the fact that I was not advised that there was going to be a convenience fee already gave me my first bad impression of this place. Secondly, I told them that I was going to pick up the cake at 5 pm, I showed up at 5:23 pm, 23 later and the cake wasn’t ready. Im told to wait an additional 15 mins, I said fine no problem. I can understand things happen. I then returned after 18 mins and the cake is still not ready. At this point I started to become frustrated because I had to bring this cake for an event that was starting at 6 pm. I received no apology from anyone in this store. Then when I finally get the cake, again Im told Im going to be charged $45 dollars and im charged an additional $3.00 dollars. Again I don’t care about the additional dollars but just don’t lie to me and tell me you are going to charge me something and then charge me something else. Then finally, the quality of this cake was very poor. The cake had a strong almond flavor which made it unpleasant and I ordered a cake with the Dominican Flag design and I got a cake with a PRINT OUT of a flag. We couldn’t even cut through the cake. I can’t even imagine if someone had tried to eat this thinking it was edible. This is dangerous and careless to say the least. If they couldn’t do a cake putting blue and red frosting on each side then I should have been told. Please save your yourself the time, money and aggravation and DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I don’t understand how this business has good reviews, must be by their family members and friends, certainly not by true customers. Very very...
Read moreSo I came in on a Thursday and spoke with Caroline that works at this location. I gave her details of my cake who (which was a cocomelon cake). She informed me it'll be done by Saturday (no specific time was given because Saturdays they are very busy and was told that Sundays they're closed). Strange but Google says they're open Sundays... I came in that Saturday around 5:30pm to check on the status of my daughters cake and not to my surprise, it hadn't even been started yet(mind you I called at least 7x before coming in so I wouldn't have to make the trip for nothing and all I got was hanging up on, busy sound and just ring ring ring). I understand being busy but being a costumer who may have important questions about an order or being an existing costumer just checking on an order. What if my daughters birthday was for a certain time that Saturday. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL service towards anyone who needs a cake done. I even paid for the whole cake so this way they understood the importance. Anyway, the baker himself informed me that he himself would drop of the cake at my residence at 9pm, so I agreed and gave him a heads up how important and crucial this cake is for my 2 year old because it's part of her birthday theme. He asked the cashier to take my info and I was given his. While I wrote this review, it's almost 10:30pm and not a phone was given back, still no cake for my daughters bday which is for that Sunday early afternoon. I've been coming here for years now because I like there cakes but they're puntiality is astroshus, unprofessional, irresponsible and very stressful for costumers who really care. I have no idea how Don Jose and the Bizcocho Dominicano Bakery is...
