El Chevere Main Ave — Restaurant in Passaic

My family and I have been loyal customers for 15+ years, we used to visit you at the other location as well.

Yesterday, we took my grandparents that are visiting from Peru to eat some pancita and anticuchos and we had the worst experience. Service was the worst we have ever received, prices are up by $5 on the check without notice because they are false advertising on the menu. I requested to speak with a manager which was non-existent. They told me that our server was supposed to tell us about the prices at the beginning but she didn’t even introduce herself. She told us that she had been on vacation and didn’t know about the prices increment. She wasn’t even checking our table at all. Didn’t remove plates on time. We had to ask a different server to help us with empty plates and at the end she included a 18% gratuity to the check.

I have been a server for so many years in the past and this is definitely not the service a loyal customer deserves. We are so disappointed we drove for hours to have this experience. I can’t even rate the food because I left out with Nothing, I wanted some Anticuchos and called multiple time before arriving. I had a 30 min break from work and tried to place an order over the phone and nothing so I drive to the location about 13 mins and began to place my order. There goes half my time . The lady told me they had no Anticuchos so I go for the Tallarín verde With the chicken breast I think it was like $18 so I asked how many slices of the chicken breast where on it the order she said 1 so I asked if I added 2 more How much would it be because I needed more chicken , so then she taken me to the other side of the menu and points out to chicken breast with rice $14 is u take out the rice it’s $1 less so she wanted me to pay !13 for 1 extra slice of chicken breast 😂 I needed 2 extra.I was not going to pay $26 for 2 pieces of chicken. I am disappointed with this location. I love el chévere but this one , dont see myself ever coming back and the place didn’t even look clean. To take pictures of the plates of food is not even worth it. The 1st star i give to the waiter, his service and understanding of our issues was on point. We ordered ½ chicken salad, and yuca. That is the 2nd reason for a star, it was delicious and the yuca was soft the plating on salad was not impressive. The anticuchos are grilled as should be, we ordered med-rare, but lacked that umph of typical peruvian anticuchos. The accompanying salsas aji verde & aji Amarillo were good and the aji Amarillo was perfect! Like it should be, for the anticuchos. The plate of choncholi was very disappointing because we just came from vacation home in Perú and the plate was like a mess, the seasoning was tasty but the choncholi was so chewy and tough, the knife couldn't even cut it. It had to be taken back.
