Shah's Halal Food — Restaurant in Paterson

Not sure why there’s so many low ratings and reviews lately, but I’ve always had good experiences with Shah’s!

I’ve been there several times in the past few months, stopped again today with my sister. The 3 employees there were so nice to us, took our orders right away and we were out with our large order within maybe 15 minutes.

We ordered several combo platters over rice for the family and I got a chicken gyro. They even gave us a complimentary big pouch of their classic white sauce. They are constantly cooking fresh batches of meat, and the food always hits the spot!

I went to the ER next door 3-4 times last month and after every visit, I picked up food from them and each time was just as good. One of those nights I walked over just as they were about to lock up for the night; they saw me approaching the door and still let me in to get food, and they were so nice about it as well!

I order the no salad, they gave me salad and they give me very little meat and I got the combo. This is the third time they are doing this, I thought it was a mistake but they are giving people smaller portions on purpose and dumping the leftover vegetables they have on the patters. I got more cucumbers than I did lamb or chicken portions. I give up trying to order from here and I warn everyone the price is not good the food, it’s not true halal and the food is pretty mid. The only thing they have going for it is the buy one get one free but I feel like they also make sure to give people less protein to save themselves a few dollars. Do yourself a favor and order true Halal from Halal are Us or those food trucks, those are a lot better, but anything is better then this store food. I ordered chicken over rice 2x with Uber eats with a special note, NO VEGETABLES ANYWHERE IN MY DISH PLEASE AND THANK YOU. It came smothered in onions and peppers Instead of calling me with my contact info to tell me all dishes are made with onions. They decided to still send the food. I called to get it fixed but they told me there is nothing they can do. No substitute or refund. I work in the restaurant business but today I decided to order out and try something different.
