Off night.
I took my daughter out. She's autistic, but fairly high functioning. She doesn't do well with loud places, though. So, I thought, we could go to Outback on a Sunday. But we were surprised to see the place full like a Friday. She wanted to stay. I told her we could get our food packed up any time if she changed her mind. So...we stayed.
It felt like chaos. The host stand was like a beehive, with all types of staff coming and going constantly, everyone looking stressed. Managers, hosts, servers, were all trying to run the host stand, it seemed.
Originally, the hostess offered us a booth in the bar, but my daughter doesn't like being in bar areas, so she took us to a huge booth in the dining room. (I felt guilty for taking such a big table, but thought it was very kind.)
We got to our table and were incredibly fortunate to get Matthew, a wonderful server. He was perfect - friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. Just what we needed. He was great with my daughter!
The appetizer came out fast and it looked 2/3 okay. Not great. See photo. The petals looked like what you'd find at the bottom of the basket at the end of a busy night. Dry, overcooked, not edible. I didnt want to send it back due to the time it would take. Matthew offered to bring out some new petals to go. Perfect!
Then our salads came and they were fresh and good.
Then my meal came (daughter couldn't order) and it wasn't good. I didn't say anything because I just really wanted to leave at that point. My daughter was really going downhill from the noise and a baby had started crying, so I just wanted to get her to the car and start calming her down.
I had ordered the chicken and shrimp with fettuccine. The chicken seemed to have shrunk. It was very dry and overcooked. Tough. No juices, no tenderness. The shrimp weren't any better, rubbery and dry, so I gave them to our Newfoundland-- they love shrimp. The pasta had a dry crust all along the edge of most noodles. Awful.
The hostess and Matthew were terrific. But the kitchen staff were having an off night. Either that or the trainees were cooking. It was not good at all.
Clearly, they weren't expecting to be that busy. And the kitchen staff were drowning. So, maybe they should've had a manager checking the food before it left...
Read moreI used to go outback in Peabody years ago. After the pandemic I stopped. On Monday night (May 20th) my husband and I decided to go to Outback. It was terrible. I have no words to express the poor service we received. There were 4 customers in the restaurant. The waitress was extremely rude. It didn't even bring us water. While we placed the order, she was clearly in a hurry to get the order. At no point did she even smile or be polite. She practically threw the glasses on the table and left. I asked another employee for straws because she left quickly. I ordered my meat very well done. As soon as it arrived I saw that it was toasted on the outside. But without any problems I continued anyway. As soon as I cut it I saw that the meat had juice inside and asked them to cook it a little more. After 10 minutes they came back with my order. They had made another meat, which was cool. However, it was extremely raw inside. Worse than the first time. The waitress wanted to take the dish away as soon as I complained, but I asked to speak to the manager. As soon as he arrived she just apologized, she smiled and said: “Don’t worry, I won’t charge you for this!!! “ I went to the restaurant to eat and pay for my food. not to come home hungry and eat toast. As soon as he left my table, he clearly came in laughing and shaking his head as if he was making fun of what I said. Meanwhile, the waitress kept talking very loudly at the bar to one of the only customers there who was extremely tired because she had worked two shifts. Then when she brought the bill she just said that “someone” changed the plates when they brought the food and that the lady at the bar had my meat. In short, I came home hungry and had to eat toast. I would just like to ask Outback management to better train their employees like they did in the past. A few years ago people were at least polite and made a point of serving the customer. Now they seem to be tired and hating what they do. I didn't go to Outback to eat for free. I went to be well attended to and PAY FOR MY MEAL. Not to have the manager imply that I could eat a piece of raw meat and that THEY WOULDN'T CHARGE ME for it. Totally disappointing experience. I don't know if I ever want to go there again or even recommend this...
