I have been going to the Sylvan Street Grille for close to 20 years. The atmosphere has changed a bit due to the upgrades, but the food is still delicious. We stopped by today on a Sunday after church around 12:30 and were surprised to find it very quiet at that time. Perfect for getting hot food quickly as it had not yet begun to fill up. I think it only took about 10 to 15 minutes to get our food. It came so quickly that all of our food was ready at the same time as the appetizers so it all came out together. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because of their sauce policy. I ordered fried fish and my daughter chose to do the same (first time ordering fish at a restaurant...so proud of her choice!!), but hers came without tartar sauce, so I mentioned that they forgot her sauce. The waiter brought it for us and we finished our food. The bill came and we had been charged $1.00 for "dressing". Granted, this was only a dollar, but I was informed AFTER the fact that they charge for kids to have tartar sauce with their fried fish! This was a coup for me to even have her request fish in the first place! Kids love sauce. You cannot "not" give a kid tartar sauce when it comes with the adult version, especially when kids like to imitate parents. It just really seemed like a tacky thing to do, especially not telling us there was an additional charge. The whole kids meal (with dessert that comes with it that we were not asked about until we were paying the bill) cost $8.00. Neither kid had dessert and they still charged $1.00 for a TINY container of tartar sauce. Seems like something silly and inexpensive that could have changed our experience into a 5 star experience if it had been handled appropriately. Might try looking into some newer restaurants...
Read moreI Love food and i'm not picky but neither myself or my BF liked what we got. Lobster mac came without lobster and when i complained the waitress said she would check with thekitchen and be right back. she never came back so i got up and asked to speak to a manager. She brought me lobster with cheese sauce on the side- and asked me to mix it with the mac and cheese. not the same thing, not what i wanted and it didn't taste the same. the BF ordered the broiled seafood and sent it back because it was so bland. the scallops had a really bitter taste on the center. We sent it back and didn't even bother with a replacement. The mngr took off our 2 cokes and his broiled dinner but she saw i didnt eat any of my mac and cheese after they messed up the order and she didnt take it off the bill. I didn't want to ask because i was just done with the whole situation but as a manager, she should have removed it without me asking. She is in charge of customer relations and she could see something wasn't right but she never even asked me why i didn't eat it. she just didn't care or maybe she was scared (of what though?). If she had done her job as manager and had taken the time to hear me out and address the issue i would have gladly tried this place again in the future but now i wont be back ever. bottom line- I've driven by and heard of this place for so long, i was so disappointed. The food came quickly and the place is beautiful. But that's the only positive thing i can say about sylvan street grill. I hope the price of the mac & cheese was worth two 1...
Read moreNot every single experience here has been stellar. I will say in all honesty that I have experienced some quality control and consistency issues with the food at times. However, this was some time ago and the last several visits have been very good indeed. The interior is dated, but I suppose that's part of its charm, in a way. The service is always friendly and prompt. I hope that never changes. The pricing is actually very reasonable especially considering the location. My kids are in love with this place, and it's because they do the basics right. The steak tips, chicken fingers, salads, fries and burgers are very good for the cost. I can feed a family of four for $60. That's incredible in these times. No, Sylvan St Grille is not perfect, and no, it's not a high end steak house, but not does it portend to be. It is a family friendly restaurant with good food, good service and fair prices. We visit here at least twice a month and I see no reason why I wouldn't continue to do so. I hope Sylvan St places a priority on continuing to maintain good quality control in the kitchen, and continue to uphold the high standards of service amongst their staff. If they do so, they'll be around for another 50 years. In short, I rate them five out of five stars. They don't pretend to be something they're not, and I love that about them. Keep up the good work and I'll keep spending my hard earned bucks...
