Our party of 6 arrived for our 7:45 dinner reservations Saturday night and were immediately greeted and seated by the warm and charming Lilliana. As most have mentioned, the restaurant is gorgeous. An earlier review said the environment was too loud, but that was not my experience. Our table was easily able to carry on conversation. Shortly after settling into the booth, our server Tierra came to take our drink orders. Half of our party ordered selections from the beer on tap, one ordered a glass of red, and two ordered from the cocktail menu. The Eagle Old Fashioned and the Sazerday Evening Post were delicious and perfectly executed by the bartender Chelsea. For appetizers, we ordered The Trio (white bean hummus, pimiento cheese, & deviled eggs served with a nice variety of crudités), Southern Chicken Egg Rolls, and the fried green tomatoes. Everything was enjoyed, though one opined the hummus to be overly garlicky. The fried green tomatoes were the table standout. Our entrees: Grilled Flat Iron Surf and Turf; Chicken Fried Chicken—one with creamed corn and mashed potatoes, the other with pimiento cheese grits and collards; The Grind (burger); and a vegetable plate of squash casserole, butter beans, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and cole slaw. The pimiento cheese grits!!!! So. Freaking. Good. The chicken fried chicken was perfection. I honestly don’t understand what sorcery was used to keep a crisp breading even underneath a generous helping of gravy. Vegetables; YUM. The only dish that fell flat was the surf and turf; it was severely underseasoned. I feel like I manifested it because I tend to eyeroll reviews of well-reputed restaurants that complain of things being flavorless, secretly believing the reviewer’s palate is poorly developed. Sadly, I confirm that on the night we dined, the shrimp was the sole element that was adequately seasoned in entire dish. But GUYS. This is just day 6 after opening. And that was the only real issue we had with the entire experience. Tierra was a true professional throughout our meal and maintained a perfect balance of attentiveness and space to enjoy ourselves. So, all in all, I’d call Elliott’s opening a major success. Kudos to the Chef for developing such an interesting yet approachable menu, the kitchen for churning out dishes in a timely manner, the staff for nailing every element of good service, and management for hiring such capable and hard-working staff and trusting them to do their jobs. Oh, and of course the decorator for their impeccable taste. We have reservations for Wednesday and next Saturday evening as well, and plan to return many times after that. I won’t be satisfied until I’ve eaten every item on their menu. Recommend...
Read moreThis is a lovely restaurant and right next to a cool consignment shop so suggested it for a girlfriend lunch. Service was impeccable- friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Loved the booth seating and the wall to wall windows - light and airy. The issue of air conditioning someone else mentioned seems to be resolved because it was cool and comfortable on a day with 100 degree temps. My friends and I stayed for 3 hours and had a wonderful time together. We had mixed results with the food. My friends had the rotisserie chicken and loved it. I had the blueberry peach salad and a vegetable plate. The collard greens and cornbread were amazing. Best I’ve ever had and I grew up in Georgia. I had French fries with gravy as a treat. The fries were fine but the gravy was a little too confusing in flavor and salty combined with the fries which were also salted. The black eyed peas were cooked well - neither mushy or hard, but too bland. A pity because they are a favorite of mine. The Cole slaw was creative with jalapeño and onion which I don’t care for but my friend ate it and she liked it a lot. The salad was the big disappointment - skimpy toppings and the peaches had been grilled on the meat grill and tasted of meat more than peach. The pickled blueberries, and the small amount of goat cheese, pecans, and salad dressing were nice but the peaches made it impossible to eat. I also tried the coffee and strawberry lemon shortcake. Coffee was very bitter even with a lot of cream. The cake was just wrong. Instead of a light plain cake or even plain pound cake it was an iced lemon pound cake which was too sweet and overpowered the dish. The lemon curd did not look fresh - more brown than yellow and really lacked any zing. The star of the show - the strawberries? Just awful. Not fresh as described but sliced and clearly soaked for a while in sugar and water because they were dull gray and chewy. (they said not overnight, but that’s how they looked and tasted) Since I picked the venue, I’m glad my friends had better luck ordering than I did! Overall I enjoyed my time there and would definitely go back for the...
Read moreWe had a great meal and great time at Elliott's last night. We had a reservation--which we'd made earlier that day--and were seated promptly. Our waiter, Scott, approached our table to let us know that they were a bit backed up so it might be a few minutes. Five minutes later he reappeared to take our drink order.
The drinks were a bit pricy, but great! I had The Elliott, which was quite spicy (I was warned by Scott when I ordered). It was tasty--and spicy! I would have preferred not to have jalapeno seeds floating around in the drink so I tried to avoid them as much as I could, but it wasn't an issue. My wife had the Eagle Old Fashioned (I think that using Eagle Rare in a mixed drink is a bit sacrilegious, but it was tasty enough that I ordered one after my Elliott!)
The fried green tomato appetizer was awesome. I had the Blackened Redfish entree (also awesome!) and she had the Dory fried fish sandwich. They were both great and something that we'd order again. We appreciated Scott managing the orders so the entrees didn't come out before we finished the appetizer.
The staff were all hustling throughout the meal
The only knock on the restaurant is that the clean, modern atmosphere makes it quite loud. We were seated on the end of the dining room, which was probably the quietest seat in the house so it wasn't overly bad, but don't plan on a quiet conversation here!
They have outdoor seating with a TV--we'll be regulars out there watching sports this fall once the weather cools!
Unfortunately we were hungry and didn't take time to take any photos--you'll have to go see...
