For: Tropical Caribbean Cuisine:
I hate, hate hateeee to have to write a one star but hear me out.
I loved this place. We went here religiously any chance we needed a solid food option for a great price. I remember the sweet west Indian lady calling me 'dear' and treating every patron like they were her nephews/nieces and grandkids. It was a warm environment always. Until... I don't know, recently?
I moved from Peachtree Corners to Roswell. I don't get to visit often, but when I do I make sure to stop by TropCaribbeanCuisine. The last time I was there (maybe over a month ago) I asked for the sweet peanut/coconut chicken and they said it wasn't available that day. WHAT? So I ordered something else and went about my day. Today 11/29/2020 I go and they have the 'sweet chicken'.... I IMMEDIATELY knew something wasn't right. The chicken was cut up, semi-dry and had onions and peppers on top. No, not the barbecued/grilled thighs that are soaked in the delicious creamy sauce. The flavor? Meh. Then here we go... the plantains. DRY. The Mac 'n Cheese? OMG the cheese was so hard on top I had to trow it away. I have acid reflux from the food, and chewing on a TUMS as I type which never happened before. As I regular customer I am 99.9% that the same cooks/chef is not around anymore. Will they be back? Who knows! Was the food edible? Yeah... just have your Tums and stool softener ready. Ya might get diarrhea today. I am so sorry to leave this review, I really did love you guys. If someone could tell me where the old staff is I will...
Read moreHere's the thing or the ting rather. My hubby and I were craving authentic Jamaican cuisine. And although this place came closer than many, the prices were really high and the authenticity was off. The sorrell was good but almost $5 dollars a Styrofoam cup, and the tings (the small ones were only .50 cheaper ... They said you get 2 sides with the oxtail, yet oxtail is always served with rice and peas, but it was counted as one of the sides. 1st clue they were not as Jamaica as they protested when we called to inquire. 2nd the Mac and Cheese was far better than the rice and peas, and the serving of oxtail was less than generous considering it cost, I think $25 a plate. This could have been a better experience if the price was lower or the portions bigger, or another side which may have been good could have been included. But it just felt like they wanted top dollar for not top notch Jamaican food. Furthermore when I've had really good oxtail the bones are soft and the meat is not fatty. There was no sucking out the centers of these bones, This was not like that, it was softish meat, but I think it was particularly due to the fattiness they didn't trim and not the style of cooking that is generally employed. I'd say if you don't know the difference and if you have money to spend, this isn't the worst. But, if you are Jamaican, this place is sure to disappoint your home cravings and leave you a little miffed about pricing. Ok, one last thing, the guy from the back stood over the girl serving as if threatening her not to give too many portions, and never said anything, Even though i addressed him with a question or two. This made me feel both bad for her and also underappreciated for the $54 or maybe it was $57 I don't remember exactly for two plates of oxtail and two...
Read moreI just found this spot because I recently moved out here. Today makes the 3rd time. The food is worth coming back for. But the older Hispanic lady that works the front counter has an extremely nasty attitude and after today she has me questioning if I want to come back. She took a man's order yesterday and she was actually picking which oxtails to put in his plate. He says he's paying 26 dollar's for the plate and asks why she was being stingy and she just frowned at him. When she was checking me out she did the same. I asked for some hot sauce and she rolled her eyes at me and purposely sighed real loud and was angry about it. Today I come back she was rushing to ring me out I said I wanted a patty to go with my order. She rolled her eyes at me. I asked for hot sauce and she tells me I don't need it because the chicken is spicy so she sighs loudly like she did yesterday and mumbled under her breath and threw the hot sauce in my bag not properly sealed and it wasted all in my bag. She new what she did because after looking in the bag I turned around and and stood in the line after ringing out the customers she went to the back and another lady helped me out and apologized. As a general manager I would not have the older lady as someone working the front line. She doesn't even say hello when...
