I went there last night with my parents and my friend and I absolutely hate to leave a bad review because I used to love this place but after last night, I’m never going again.
First of all, they only had two servers. We came in and no one was at the front door to sit us. It took someone five minutes to sit us down... Well, we didn’t make a big deal out of this... maybe they were busy and short on staff.
We ordered an appetizer before our meals. First of all, the waitress brought us the wrong order but we didn’t want to make a fuss and said it was okay. She said they were out of tostones but brought us other things instead. She said they were having trouble in the kitchen.... again, we said it was okay because we didn’t want to make a fuss....
This is when things really got bad. My mom and I ordered pescado a la tortuga.. I swear, even captain D’s could have cooked it better. My fish was cold and one of one calamaris were frozen. The batter was soft, as if they had just microwaved this. My rice was hard and the tomatoes on my salad had a horrible taste. My mother’s plate was exactly the same. Just awful....
My friend ordered el lechón asado. His meat tasted like fish? As if they heated everything together. Also, his rice was also hard and old.
I really don’t know what happened last night. Usually the owners are there and the food had always been great, till last night. It sucks to waste almost $100 on food that really was not even...
Read moreSo I went to this place with family in mother's day but not because a fancy place but because all fancy restaurants were overbooked, so we took the decision to come over here just to share with family, 1. Place was so cold Waiter who I know him for other place is a nice person but... Second party come after us in about 15 min difference, but they got their food first of us. Our dinner took around 30 to 40 min. Not counting the time while he took our drinks orders, so in average we spend like an hour prior to get our dinner. Place was not full at all neither that busy. My wife's dish was tasty but my dish, grilled snapper, was so poor presentation, the "sauce" in the menu sounded tasty but there was no sauce but some crab meat with some little dice vegetables, I couldn't tell what was in it. For the price was too small dish. When my sister in law ask for our food he argue nicely instead of apologize. I'm a chef of Italian food, and my sister in law works for a busy busy busy mexican restaurant and we all family are often out dinner people, so we all know and agree that the service for a non busy place was ok, not good but ok. 18% tip added to our bill because a large party but not well served. He is a nice guy but business need to improve training and the way to handle large parties. I'm not complaining but...
Read moreWe ordered take out and were very disappointed. We ordered the Tortuga sampler, Ajiaco Criollo, Enchilado de camarones, Media Noche and Tres leches. First I must address the menu online listed lower prices than what we were charged. If it was for packaging $2-$3 per item for Styrofoam is insane. Now the food. The Tortuga sampler consists of several items empanadas, mariquitas, maduros, papa rellena, and ham croquettes. The empanadas were dry and lacked flavor. The croquettes had pasty muddy filling with no flavor. The papa rellena also lacked flavor. The plantains were fine. The Ajiaco Criollo lacked flavor and salt. Even the piece of corn was so bland it tasted like field corn. The Enchilado de camarones did have a good flavor in the sauce but the shrimp was way overcooked until it was rubber. It was chewing little pink tires. And there was no enchilado. Just rice, plantains, salad and the sauce with the rubber shrimp in it. The Media Noche was slightly burnt, the ham was so thin you couldnt taste it. It looked like cheap budding meat. The pork was flavorless. It was a very underwhelming cuban sandwich. The Tres Leches was a tragic dessert. It was way too wet and the passion fruit topping very disappointing. From all the great reviews and the price we really expected something wonderful and what we received was...
