I’ve visited this restaurant multiple times, and while the food has always been hit or miss, lately, it’s been more of a miss. The owner is quite rude, which creates an unwelcoming atmosphere, but the heavy-set lady with the Afro was polite. The real highlight of my visit, however, was the new bartender, Fox.
Fox is a standout—her skills and work ethic far exceed the environment she’s in. I watched as she single-handedly managed the bar, served tables, handled to-go orders, ran food, acted as a host, and even cleaned the entire restaurant, including the bathrooms—all with grace. Despite her dedication, I witnessed the owner speaking to her in an unprofessional and nasty tone while she was juggling multiple responsibilities. Frankly, she deserves a raise, and I’m surprised they’ve managed to keep her.
As for the food, I ordered the Ajtono, which was dry and lacked flavor, and the Egusi, which tasted spoiled. When Fox brought it back to address the issue, I overheard the manager dismissing her concerns, saying, “They have to wait,” rather than fixing the problem. Meanwhile, the person in charge seemed more focused on socializing with what appeared to be friends rather than actually running the restaurant.
This place is clearly understaffed. On my last two visits, I walked in, didn’t see Fox behind the bar, and left because I had no interest in dealing with the rude environment. If things don’t change, I’d be surprised if this restaurant lasts another...
Read moreOriginally I wrote a review 5 days ago regarding my first experience at this restaurant and swore I wouldn't give it a shot again. However; I decided to give them a try again since writing the review. I specifically ordered 2 sides of Jolloff rice because the rice was actually good. The owner Matthew was very generous, friendly and concerned regarding my previous review. We conversed until my food was ready and it was genuine. The difference from my first visit and my visit yesterday evening was better. Matthew greeted me when I walked in and the lady that worked there also said "Good evening". Coming from a background of over 25 years of customer service I stress to anyone the importance of giving your customers the best customer service experience. Yes we all go through things but making a customer feel welcomed makes a big difference, without customers a business would not thrive. I'm glad I went back, Matthew accomodated me on my order and I must say I will be back again. I look forward to sitting at the bar and trying a few...
Read moreI’ve never had Nigerian food and this was my first time. I’ve heard people have the argument on who makes the best jollaf rice, Nigeria or Ghana. These arguments are laughable and can be pretty serious at times. Think of who has the best fried chicken or best barbecue conversations.
I noticed this place when I went to get my nails done and the aroma that filled the air was tantalizing. I’m no punk when it comes to trying new types of cuisine.
I ordered the Egusi soup with pounded yam (fufu) and jollaf rice. Now, I don’t want to say this, but the smell of the soup was strong! It’s a unique way to eat this. You have to pinch off a piece of the fufu, which can be sticky, and roll it around in your hand and grab the soup. Don’t use utensils, really get in there and enjoy it the traditional way.
Let’s talk about the jollaf. This rice dish was so freaking good! Next time I’m going to the try their peanut soup and of course a side of jollaf.
