First time dining at Stage for a friends birthday.
At arrival there wasn’t anyone to greet or guide, but it was fine. They looked busy and I found myself in through around the restaurant where our party was.
Our server was Christina who was very friendly and accommodating. If she was not around another server showed and accompanied us immediately.
We ordered variety of appetizers and entrees to share.
The menu itself was quite compact and a LOT so it was quite a read.
The platings for every item was presentable and looked delicious.
However. I would comment that some of the dishes were either too salty, too bland, or too saucy.
If it was seasoned evenly the food would have been perfect.
Appetizers
Beet & Burrata salad which I personally enjoyed. I believe this was my favorite dish of the entire meal. Where I would love to recreate at home to enjoy.
Calamari was crispy yet doused in sauce, maybe some like a lot of sauce but this only had me want only a few pieces and move on to another.
Seafood Fondue was actually another dish I enjoyed. Creamy and flavorful paired with warm bread was like a nice little hug.
Baked Scallops was another good item on their menu. Cooked and seasoned perfectly and the sesame rice crisps went very well together.
Tuna Tower was fun to eat. The crispy wonton chips with layers of rice on the bottom was different but it added some texture to the tuna tartar, avocado, and crab salad.
I did wish we had tried more of the appetizers and small plates.
I believe it was better than the entrees.
Ratatouille was just as it looked so I don’t have much complaints about it. It tasted like what it appeared . Tomato sauce with vegetables. I enjoyed it regardless of the portion size for it to be an entree.
Short Rib Bolognese was a mix for me… it was a bit bland.. perhaps it’s how it is supposed to be but it wasn’t appealing for me.
Tomahawk Chop was a nice cut and hearty as a meal. This I would have again if I am to go back.
Crab Stuffed Salmon. I had asked Christina between the Grouper and Salmon which is recommended. She instantly suggested the salmon. However. This was the one item that was not really touched so I finished it. I do not like to waste food, but this was a funny dish. The ends of the fillet was overly salty and the rest of the salmon was just bland and overcooked.
Dessert
We tried the cheesecake, creme brûlée, and bread pudding.
I’d have to say creme brûlée and bread pudding was better than the cheesecake. I think when I read the description of the cheesecake I was visualizing a mix of pecan pie and cheesecake but what came out was not what I had thought.
All in all. I wouldn’t say it was bad nor the best. However the food was good enough for what I had expected.
I would like to try other items off the menu if I am to go back. There’s some items that made me curious to try.
Really wanted to try the okra fries but they ran out. Next time I will have to try the other items off the menu.
Thank you for the hospitality and recommendations. Will be back if ever in...
Read moreFrom the moment we walked in, their service and food were not on point. My sister called in advance and made reservations for my mom’s birthday. They knew we were celebrating a birthday, and I believe she spoke to a gentleman who was the manager - Gordon?. Not 100% sure of his name.
We were seated and waited over ten minutes for someone to come over to the table. Our servers name was Christina/Krisitna. She did not do a good job the entire time we were there. Barely saw her throughout our meal. We had to keep asking other people to help us with things or get things we didn’t have at the table. It was our first time here and I believe everyone that was there from our family said we wouldn’t come back.
We went on a Sunday, so they only have a brunch menu on Sundays. Which we were fine with because we saw a good mix of “breakfast” items and “lunch” items. EVERYTHING we ordered was overcooked. From the lamb chops to the skewers to my order of a Benny. Nothing was done right. I was very disappointed in the meals and service, especially after reading previous reviews and their rating on Google and Yelp. I am very shocked to see the service we got. And it wasn’t busy AT ALL when we came and they had, what seemed to be, lots of staff. They were not short staffed (again, to what it seemed). We saw a tall gentleman wearing regular clothes cleaning tables or behind the bar, etc. and my sister called on him. He was the gentleman she spoke to on the phone when she made the reservation. He asked us how the food was and we told him how bad it was, and he said he would take a look at the bill. Which nothing much really came off it. Also my sister ordered a dish and specialized it to her diet. And they forgot to bring ANY sides. Seriously?! Smh. I can understand they might have had an off day, but not one thing was good.
Would I come here again? Most likely not, unless someone was hosting something. I would try it out and give it another shot. But I wouldn’t go out of my way or make a reservation here on a Sunday again. I would see what they are like on a regular weekday...
Read moreCame here on my birthday! Many have suggested this place and had a lot of great things to say about this spot. That's how I chose it.
Host was very friendly and the server was even friendlier. Handled our 8 people group seamlessly. Head chef greeted us and gave us an amazing time!! Restaurant was beautiful and looks upscale. LOVED the open kitchen.
I loved the fact that this restaurant had such a unique spread of choices from steak to sushi, to pasta, to tacos, etc. I also enjoyed the creativity in the ingredients that is being mixed and matched! Though, maybe it can be a bit overwhelming to choose and read. Maybe they need to review and condense the menu once more and to only sell the best of the best.
Best things that blew our mind: The duck fat fried rice... Truly missing out if you don't order this. Probably hands down the best fried rice I've had. The octopus was also great, loved the salad and mushrooms that came with it as well. Loved the stage oysters that came with ikura, uni and caviar/tobiko (not sure which it was). The handrolls were fat and delicious. Loved the sashimi platter, all the fish was so fresh and BEAUTIFULLY prepared.
The only thing we didn't quite like was oxtail tachos. Weird texture, kind of tasted a lot more like southern breakfast griddle? Not something I'd order for dinner. Avoid. Too heavy, it is mix match. Really doesn’t come together with all the seafood vibe aesthetically and in flavors. But I heard some people really liked it so, hey, don't take my word for it. Personally I prefer less sauce on the lamb sticks because grilled lamb sticks are great on its own and it would taste better less.
Overall the menu selection and the taste was 9/10. Definitely a restaurant I'm coming back to. Prices were very reasonable and we left overly stuffed. One of the best restaurants to visit outside of Atlanta. GREAT spot for birthday dinners. Must reserve for big tables/weekends because they do get PACKED. Everyone in the group was very happy and that's all I wanted for my birthday...
