I rarely write bad reviews but this morning's visit broke the camels back. I have frequented Pena's many time with friends and family. Many of these friends swear by the food and it is more premium breakfast fair and admittedly above average. I hear the owners are great people and that is probably what drives their business because it is not the service.
If you visit Pena's donut heaven on Shadow Creek Parkway... expect long lines and slow service. If you order something from the menu, expect to wait atleast 20+ minutes for your order. If your not a fan of crowds like myself, this place will stress you out during peak hours.
This morning's visit though is what prompted this review... I decided to pick up some treats for the fam as we are preparing to travel today and thought donuts would be a special way to start our trip. I arrived at Pena's a little after 6am, which is a great time to go as there is virtually noone there, and they were totally un prepared. Mind you they open at 5am. The donut cases and racks were empty. So i thought, "maybe they aren't open for full service today as it's Christmas eve" which would have been a justification to me and I would have totally understood a reasonable explanation so I asked to make sure that they were actually open for business and was told rudely... "it depends on what you want". Upon reexamining the empty case and racks, I smiled and asked, "what do you have?". The employee scoffed, rolled her eyes, turned sharply toward the kitchen, and walked away shacking her need as if I was inconveniencing her. I was astonished by her totally disrespectful attitude like it was my fault they weren't ready for business.
That was it... I immediately turned my kids around, walked out, and drove 10 minutes to Shipley donuts as they were very happy to serve us and take my money.
I will gladly pay less for a non premium product from an establishment that treats there customer with dignity and respect over a premium product where i feel like i am a burden on those providing the service. Honestly, there food is not that much better, i think its mostly hype. This will likely be the last time I will willingly...
Read morePena Donut Heaven and Grill is a hidden gem in Pearland that offers a delightful mix of comfort food and friendly service. This small, mom-and-pop breakfast joint has quickly become one of my go-to spots when I’m craving something special in the morning.
Their Brisket Kolaches are a standout. The pillowy soft dough surrounds perfectly smoked brisket, creating a savory bite that feels like the best of Texas barbecue wrapped in breakfast form. The brisket is tender, flavorful, and always fresh, making these kolaches one of my favorites.
The Cinnamon Twists are a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth. They’re light, fluffy, and generously coated with cinnamon sugar, offering just the right amount of sweetness. They pair wonderfully with a morning coffee, making for a comforting breakfast treat.
I also can't get enough of their Bavarian Cream Donuts. These donuts are filled with a smooth, rich Bavarian cream and covered in a light dusting of powdered sugar. The contrast of the airy donut with the creamy filling is absolutely delicious and always leaves me wanting more.
What makes Pena Donut Heaven and Grill even better is the warm, welcoming atmosphere. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly, always greeting customers with a smile and ensuring everyone feels right at home. It’s a simple place, but that’s part of its charm—good food, great people, and a sense of community.

Read moreThe food here is great. My company patronizes this business quite often because our building is right behind theirs so it is convenient for meetings. However, I'm rating them based on the terrible customer service my husband received yesterday. We just moved to the area and because I've been to Pena's plenty of times I suggested it to my husband. He started going almost every day to get kids meals for our children, it seemed like a great deal. However, yesterday when he went to order those same kids meals he does every other day he was told by a different employee at the window that he needed to make a $5 purchase before ordering kids meals. Now the money was not the issue, the problem was that all of a sudden this was a new practice and so he questioned it. The woman at the window then switches to Spanish and speaks to another employee in the restaurant. That employee responded, in Spanish, that my husband comes there all the time. The lady at the window then flat out LIED to my husband and told him that the employee in the back said there's a $5.00 minimum. So a little lesson in customer service. Switching between languages in front of a customer that's speaking to you in a different language can be seen as disrespectful. However, this is Texas so we're use to it. But the main reason why you should be cautious about doing this is because you never know who you are speaking to and what they know. My husband looks like a regular African American but is a full blooded Honduran, and Spanish is his first language. Unfortunately, we will...
