I ordered Tacu tacu with pollo saltado. What did I get after almost 2 hours waiting for my order? A scramble of eggs, beans, rice and vegetables. This is no tacu tacu, any Peruvian reading this will know that. To call theirselves a Peruvian Restaurant and fail so badly in such a simple dish is unacceptable! And the worse part is, when speaking to the manager, she kept trying to avoid owning their mistake by saying “so you are saying, from your point of view, this is not tacu tacu?”, “so you are saying, that in your opinion, this is no tacu tacu?”. She just increased the aggravation. Made a mistake? Own it! Offer a solution! This is not “my opinion”, it is a fact. Tacu tacu does not have eggs! It’s a very simple dish. When I explained that when a customer spends over $60 and waits 2 hours for their order, the minimum expectation is to receive what was ordered, her answer was “your order was only $37” , I wasn’t asking for her to give me a refund for $62 nor $37. I simply ask to refund the cost of that specific “dish” and even offered to have it ready for them to pick up so they can see it hadn’t been eaten. I understand the amount they received may have been $37 and I was the one that choose to pay $62 for the convenience of ordering through Uber Eats. However, my point was, I spent that amount hoping to get what I ordered as any other customer would. I just wanted her to understand the customers point of view and expectations as she clearly didn’t. May sound small, but when you are hungry, waiting so long for your food and this happens, is not something I am ok with. Totoritas: As suggested over the phone, specify in your menu that your “tacu tacu” is very different from the Peruvian one or simply change the name to burrito dinner or something like that. It...
Read moreThis used to be one of my favorite restaurants. My family and I went to visit family this past week and it was completely different, but not even a good different. The place is modernized and did not have the warm Peruvian feel it had before. The music was not Spanish or Peruvian, but pop music in a "classy/indie" feel.
Worst of all though was the food. It felt overpriced and cheap for what we got. They placed out a complimentary appetizer of fried fish bites that had clearly been sitting out for a while because it was cold and stale. We ordered the yuca with papa la huancaina appetizer: the fried yucca was good (but who can really mess that up), but the huancaina sauce was not good. It felt reheated, did not really taste good, and not authentic.
I ordered the tallarines Verde with chicken and it was okay! But my husband and daughter shared a vegetarian fried rice which I felt bad afterwards that they did. The veggies were clearly frozen mixed veggies and some bean sprouts mixed in with rice... that's it. Very cheaply made for the price charged. I wondered why they weren't eating their food so I warmed up their rice for work the next day. I took a bite and it tasted burnt or like the oil used was old or something! It did not taste good so I ended up throwing it out.
The waitresses were super nice, but unfortunately, I don't recommend this place to anyone. Overpriced for "Peruvian" food. I pray someone else opens a Peruvian restaurant down there and reminds South Florida why Peru is known for having the most delicious food...
Read moreIt was a frigid, frosty, friday... wait a sec. This is Florida. It was actually really sunny when I passed by Las Totoritas Restaurant in Pembroke Pines. I ordered the Lomo Saltado (sauteed beef with onions, tomatoes, fries [yes, the fries are sauteed with everything else]). The plate also comes with white rice. Let me tell you that it was no ordinary dish. The quality of the beef was excellent, the fries were definitely made at the restaurant and were NOT the frozen variety, and everything tasted amazing. Lomo Saltado, great staple of Peruvian cuisine and extremely delicious at this place.
The service was also very good. You can sit where ever you like, and you will get a menu promptly from a smiling waitress who you can speak in Spanish to if you are able. The drinks (I had an Inca Kola) were brought almost instantly, and the food didn't take long either.
The place's decoration isn't memorable, but it's very comfortable. It's only tables, there are no booths, and there is sometimes live music. The seating area is big and open with natural light from the front windows.
Finally, I had an alfajor for dessert. They are pretty much dulce de leche between two cookies. The ones they have at this place are HUGE. The cookies are about 1cm thick, and the section of dulce de leche is just as thick.
Anyway, you can't go wrong here. Service, food, atmosphere and pricing are all great. 5 stars,...
