We have been anticipating the opening of Susies and excited to finally be able to get the best tamales in town. We got to the restaurant about 5:15pm Saturday evening and we were sat rather quickly. That was the best part of the experience we had. Let's start with table greeting, that took close to 15 minutes to be seen at the table. I had to stare down someone just to get the water we ordered. Now comes the food aspect of this experience. Once we were finally able to order, we started ordering the choose 3 combo with beans and rice. Attempted to order tamales, again, the best in town by far only to be told, oh we are out of Tamales. How I ask are you out of tamales. None the less, we ordered the choose 3 combo with beans and rice. When the food was finally brought out, there were no beans and no rice on my combo. Attempted to explain the situation only to be ignored at first and then with blank stare into outer space. Eventually she understood and brought out rice, just the rice. Again we explained to her that it was missing refried beans. I got them eventually. The quality of the food left much to be desired. All items on my plate were look warm at best and lacked any sort of seasoning. Salt is a friend of food. Once we received our plates we never saw the waiter again until we checked out. I get new to table service, but this was bad. I wish them well, but there is much to...
Read moreI was so excited to see that Susie was opening her own standalone restaurant. Her recipes are always delicious, and we didn’t want to see her go!
We visited tonight, and from the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and informed that although seating was available, there would be an extended wait for food. We appreciated the honesty and the proactive communication. During our wait, staff checked in with us more than once, offering sincere apologies and updates—which really made us feel valued and not forgotten.
When any new business opens, there are bound to be some growing pains. We’ve seen it before. But what really stood out tonight was how the staff handled the situation with grace, friendliness, and professionalism. They didn’t make excuses—they met the challenge with kindness, and that made all the difference.
Once the food arrived, it was everything we had hoped for and more. You can taste the care and quality in every bite—just like Susie has always delivered. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and you can tell that a lot of thought and heart went into every detail of the space.
It’s clear that Susie’s new house is built not just on great food, but on values that truly matter: honesty, hospitality, and heart. We will absolutely be back—and we’re excited to watch this new chapter...
