Review of KFC – 9th Avenue South, Myrtle Beach, SC – July 3rd Visit
I placed a mobile order through the app and headed over to pick up dinner, expecting a quick and easy experience. Unfortunately, what I got instead was an awkward waiting game, a side of cold food, and front-row seats to an employee power trip.
When I arrived, the restaurant wasn’t slammed. A few tables were occupied, and several to-go orders were clearly being prepared. I watched my own food being bagged—a chicken pot pie and some chicken tenders—and even saw my extra-large drink get poured and stickered. My app notified me that my order was ready. Great! Except… they didn’t put it in the designated pickup window. Instead, the food was walked to the back and placed on an unheated shelf behind the register area—nowhere near where mobile pickup orders are supposed to go.
This wasn’t a one-off. Every mobile order I saw, including a DoorDash delivery, was set in this same mystery zone instead of the proper window. The DoorDash driver had to ask about his order, which had also triggered an app alert. That’s when I decided to speak up. I said, “Hey, my app says my food is ready. Is it?”
One of the employees, clearly doing her best to help customers, asked my name and confirmed it was ready. But then the real problem began.
There was another employee—the oldest I saw there, and presumably someone who should know better—who looked directly at me and ignored me. Then, when the other staffer mentioned my name and pointed to my order, this woman literally said, “I don’t care,” and walked off. Not only that—when the helpful employee tried to bring me my food and drink, the hostile one physically ran into her, nearly knocking the drink out of her hand. It was not an accident.
This employee was creating a hostile work environment and clearly trying to undermine her coworkers. The girl who helped me looked embarrassed and flustered, apologizing even though she had done nothing wrong. When I asked why the food wasn’t in the mobile window, she looked over at the problematic employee—who responded with a grunt and a glare, and then slinked off.
I live just five blocks away. By the time I got home, the chicken tenders were cold, dry, and chewy—as if they’d been sitting out for a while. The pot pie, however, was hot and picture-perfect. At least that part was a win.
Bottom line: there was no reason for this experience to go sideways. The store wasn’t overwhelmed, and I watched multiple employees hustling and doing their jobs properly—except for one, who seemed more interested in sabotage and control than service or teamwork.
KFC corporate: if you’re reading this, send in a secret shopper about an hour before close on a Thursday night. You’ll see exactly who’s causing the breakdown. That one employee is not only a liability—she’s a...
Read moreI’ve been up since 530 am getting my kids ready for school and getting my son ready for our 3 hr trip to Pensacola for his surgery. He hadnt eaten anything since 1145 pm the night before. His surgery was scheduled for 2 pm but didn’t go back until almost 4. Once he woke up we loaded up and stopped at kfc across the street from sacred heart to get mashed potatoes and gravy that he requested. After ordering we realized that we should have asked for a large container so we could poor the gravy in it and mix the potatoes. Once we pulled up to the window we asked if we could get the larger container and mix the 2. The lady asked her manager and she right after we heard the manager say with such a nasty tone “next time tell them they’ll be charged.” Also, that nasty little ok on her face was awful. We said to the lady we don’t mind paying for it and even said my son had just gotten out of surgery. Really lady?! I’m so sorry that mixing the mashed potatoes and gravy was such a hard task (which we didn’t ask them to do but we are thankful for that) and if we need to pay for the large container (probably $.10) I believe we can pay that. SOOO to the manager that night Thursday feb 22, 2018 please understand you work across from a hospital which has many many surgeries everyday, please be kind and understanding. You’re in customer service and you’re serving parents that are exhausted and hate to see their children in pain. We just wanted to...
Read moreWorst KFC in town. Very loud mouthed, rude woman who seemed to be in charge but may have just been a bully. First problem, I ordered 3 specific pieces of chicken at the drive through and she said "let me see if I have it". She came back across the speaker after a moment to say "I ain't got it. How bout a wing?" and I only WISH I could express her tone of voice. She was annoyed, trying to rush me. They weren't even busy for it being a Friday evening but whatever. I settled for 2 pieces, leaving out the one they were out of. As I sat at the window of the drive thru listening to her complain about door dash customers who "need to find a way to get their as*es up there if they wanted their money back" and others who needed to "learn how to read" and others that need to "do their jobs". As she (finally) hands me my food without speaking to me directly, she informs the poor girl she is working with that "what she NEEDS to do is drop more chicken." Which considering they didn't have what I wanted available when I had ordered 10 minutes before this that would already be done. I was never offered the option to wait for what I wanted to be done and on top of that she got the order wrong! I ordered extra crispy and ended up with original. Seems to me that if she shut her big mouth and paid attention to her own job it would be better for the customers, the owner, and the people who have to work with her. I'll be going to another location...
