Tonight I took my husband out to eat for his 70th birthday celebration. (Just the two of us). To us, birthdays are the most special day of the year. And we have been celebrating our birthdays together ever since I was 16 yrs and he was 17yrs old. There was a 30 minute wait when we arrived at 7pm . Not too bad for a Friday evening. No problem. The last couple times we have eaten at Longhorn in Sandusky, we had experiences with some our food being served pretty much lukewarm. Our first choice was to go to eat at Texas Roadhouse in Sandusky , but the wait time there was 1 1/2 hour. So we decided to give Longhorn Steakhouse in Sandusky another try. I asked for a booth , as I am 68yrs.and my husband is 70yrs and it just works out better for us with our bad backs. Only problem was we're were seated in the booth next to the bar and next to the exit from the kitchen. We're were seated right next to all the traffic of the waitresses bringing out the food and drinks to their tables, and close enough to have the cold air, from the front door opening constantly, coming our way. We had to keep our coats on while we ate our dinner. It was only 22 degrees outside tonight. Tonight my husband ordered the French Onion soup that he loves to order at nice restaurants. It arrived cold and the cheese on top was a big hard lump, not melted at all. He asked the waitress to please have someone put it in a microwave for a few minutes for him to heat it up and melt the cheese. He was very nice about it. The last 2 times we have eaten at this restaurant the French Onion soup was served very lukewarm with cheese not melted. We ordered the Blooming Onion. It was ok. The salads were good. My husband ordered a $24 steak meal. The steak arrived barely warm, but he did not want to say anything to the waitress, as he did not want to upset her about our food because he had already had to send his soup back. We both ordered a baked potato. Mine was still mostly raw, with only the middle done, as was his potato. I only ate the cooked middle inside of my potato. I also ordered the chicken (fingers). They arrived very, very salty for some reason, and the breading was not at all crispy, but soggy and falling off the chicken, even a couple of the chicken fingers having no breading at all on them. I only ate 2 of my 9 chicken fingers , because they were not very good tasting. We really did not get the ambiance we wanted of having a special night out celebrating my husband's 70th birthday. The location we were seated at, the lack of attention from our waitress, ( not her fault though ,as she also was attending the bar) and the poor quality of the food , did not make it feel like a special occasion at all. And we are not able to go out that often to restaurants to eat, as we are on a fixed income now being senior citizens. We ending up spending almost $70 plus a $15 tip. Not sure if we will be coming back here on another...
Read moreThis is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. My husband and two small children were on vacation from out of town. We are unfamiliar with the area, so I thought it was a safe bet going to Outback. I should have turned around and walked out after we walked through the front door and I was hit with the disgusting smell of wet dish rag. The kinda smell where you know restaurants have very poor cleanliness. First, as my husband opened his napkin to get out his silverware, it was a napkin that was already used! It was full of food debris. Yuck! Next, we ordered, mistakenly, we should have walked out after that. But we thought, it’s probably just a mistake. Plus, anyone with small children know it’s a huge pain to pack up the kids and load them back in the car. So we stayed. My salad came. It was so wilted and brown I sent it back. They brought me another, it was the same, I sent that one back as well. The entrees came, and my son took one bite of his chicken (which was from the kids menu) and spit it out, saying “this is spicy”. I sent it back , our waitress apologized saying, it’s not supposed to be spicy, it was spicy. My son had ordered fruit as a part of his meal. It was orange slices and strawberries. There was an eaten orange rind in the bowl, buried under two orange slices. Disgusting. I sent it back. By the time I got to eat my dinner, I realized it was not what I ordered. I sent it back and cancelled my order. They said they could get me a new one, I declined. The manager came over and apologized and offered to pay for our dessert. He insisted on the kids having something. When the ice cream came out, it was one scoop of vanilla. Melted.
I was beyond disappointed with this experience. I’m ashamed that this manager didn’t comp my entire bill. Instead a 99cent scoop...
Read moreDespite that the servers hearts are IN it, the service always seeming subpar and the the servers seem to not be properly trained at this location.
The atmosphere is as ruggedly charming as all Longhorn Steakhouse locations - and the restrooms are spotless! The food is ALWAYS hot and spot on, steaks perfectly to temperature and the appetizers and side dishes wonderfully prepared. The desserts equally wonderful.
The reason for only three stars from me is the consistently irritatingly slow and subpar service, dirty silverware and dishes...I can deal with a LOT, but not drinking out of glassware that looks dirty and feels gritty on the outside. (On more than one occasion)
Also if you're a Steakhouse, one would expect a larger choice in wines than three choices of each color (maybe Covid- wine menu?) And just a thought; during a pandemic; maybe teach your staff NOT to stick their fingers inside used glassware to buss a table, then turn around and touch my plate with my dinner, all while coddling my brusselsprouts in the bossom of your uniform, because...why would you ever use that "modern invention"...
