As a fellow General Manager in the food service industryāspecifically in a location that also offers drive-thru and mobile orderingāI understand the challenges that come with managing peak times and ensuring a smooth customer experience.
That said, my recent visit to this Captain Dās was disappointing. The total wait time in the drive-thru exceeded 30 minutes. Iām usually patient, and I genuinely enjoy Captain Dās, so I donāt mind a bit of a wait. However, what happened during this visit was concerning.
While I was waiting over five minutes at the speaker to place my order, an SUV behind me drove around and cut the line. When I asked through the intercom whether this was normal procedure, I was told it was their General Manager ādropping off some stuff.ā
Eventually, I placed my order and pulled forwardāonly to find the same SUV still at the window. They were handed food and continued chatting with the staff, which further delayed my ability to pull up and pay. I asked, āDoes your GM also cut the line for food?ā The employee replied that she had āordered aheadā and that everything is prepared in the order received.
As someone who leads a team in this industry, I found this behavior unprofessional. Regardless of whether an order is placed ahead of time, if a customer chooses to pick it up via the drive-thru, they should wait their turnājust like everyone else. And if the order is ready and the line is long, the appropriate action would be to come inside for pickup, not disrupt the drive-thru queue.

For example, the "D" in Captan D's; why didn't they decide on Captain Dee's. Why? It would not have been fitting, it's just that simple. I was eating my chicken, fish, crab cake, shrimp, coleslaw, corn on the cob, broccoli, string beans, baked potato and I asked give me french fries on the side. I know y'all are saying, " That's a lot of food." Well, you are right but what you don't know is, simply I was hungry! One of the staff helped bring it all to my table. Um, I was thinking to myself, what a spread of choices. The staff person asked, anything else, yes I would like my sweet tea and can you bring me some slice lemons please. All eyes was pointed at me, looking to see if I was going to devour it all myself. Do you know a few people walked passed to say, that "look delicious." At that very moment after that statement, an older fellow laughed out loud and said; "Now that's a pretty large spread of food and it looks very, very delicious." I hope you all caught that. Everyone Iāve interacted with at this location have been rude, and act like Iām a bother. Iām buying YOUR food, and my money contributes to your paycheck! Foul language (should have turned the mic off!) and making a mockery of customers. The chicken place down the street was the same, and theyāve closed. I could see this location following suit. The wait time is insane. If theres more than 1-2 cars in the drive-thru, plan to be in line for 45 minutes to an hour. Yes, you read that correctly. Even be the lone car in line you wont get your food any sooner than 20-30 minutes. I assumed its because they prepare orders fresh, but Iām wrong. Itās because the employees dilly-dally and care more about whats happening on their phone than whats happening in front of them. For such long wait times, I would expect the food to be HOT. Itās not.
