2 stars for now. Didn’t experience the bar scene. Just popped in to pick up some grinds to go. Read a brief history about the chef & being that he spent some time on our home island of O’ahu, I ordered with an opened mind a bit of pride knowing that, FINALLY, some good eats. We got 3 orders of Lechon, HORRIBLY overpriced. An order for $20 literally had 4 slices of pork & it didn’t have any sides, you have to order the sides separately. Aue! Disappointment. Portions were a joke but I don’t think people realize that it’s legit pupus kine portion. It had better flavor than others we’ve tried in the area, I’ll give him that, but not $20 worth. Also ordered 2 orders of garlic chicken. THAT, was ‘ono. About 5 pieces in an order, but again no kind of sides. Also ordered 2 orders of their fried noodles. The char siu in the noodles were good, but all together, I’ve had better noodles. Other than the portions being a joke for the price, we’ll have to post an updated review when we decide to try out the bar. But for the prices we’ve seen & just popping in for foods, we’re probably not gonna ever return to this establishment. Appreciate the effort to bring the Aloha spirit to Sonoma County, but we’re good. The decor definitely reminded me of the typical tourist trap that I’ve been around, working with tourists that would visit Hawaii back in my day on the island. I’m not out to discourage diners or bar goers, just stating my point of view. Give this place a go. You can’t knock anything until you try it for yourself! We did, hence our...
Read moreWe went to Kapu last night for my boyfriends pre-birthday dinner. I had heard it was a great place and my boyfriend is Hawaiian so I thought this was the perfect place to bring him. OH MY GOD this place is amazing; more than a bar/restaurant it’s truly an EXPERIENCE. The decor is perfect, I felt like I left Sonoma County and was transported to an island paradise- complete with pinball machines! The drinks were so good; heavy poor and perfectly concocted. The food is to die for, the stuffed fish and the garlic chicken couldn’t have been better. We had a few other small plates and it was all delicious; there’s nothing I wouldn’t recommend. But now for the service…. talk about top notch. Everyone was so nice and knowledgeable and the drinks and food came out fast. My only regret was that we got so full we didn’t have room for the banana split I wanted to try after seeing it arrive at the table next to us. Oh well… gotta go back! The place was packed even on a Thursday night so I would recommend making an online reservation, I booked about a month ahead even for 2 of us and was glad I did- although not sure it’s necessary if you don’t mind waiting a few minutes. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Wear your slippahs, a flower in your hair and be ready for a Petaluma “staycation”. Thank you for a wonderful experience...
Read moreExperience based on cocktails (no food). Kapu is a cool new tiki bar and restaurant. Was excited to finally come and visit. We put our name down for a bar seat (approx 30min wait) and then just ordered drinks at the bar and sat near the pinball tables. Drinks are $16 for all classic cocktails and there are a few at $15. At the $16 price point I expected a legit tiki drinks full of flavor and that is not what we got. We ordered a zombie and a jungle bird. Both were lackluster and not balanced. The jungle bird was heavy handed on Campari and it over powered this classic cocktail. The drinks were not a good value for the price point and was also overly juicy, so we decided to just call it after one round. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere is pretty cool, but it's more a family friendly centric tiki bar restaurant compared to others in the bay area, there was quite a lot of kids there when we visited (which is not a bad thing, just helps set expectations as this is more geared towards a restaurant atmosphere than a bar.) If in the future they offer a happy hour, would definitely try them again but it's a bit steep for what you get on cocktails so it's not...
