I can't deny the fish was of excellent quality and they have probably the most diverse selection in Sonoma County, but that is about the only positive. For just over $100 we got: 6 okay sized pieces of sashimi ($16HH), a salmon hand roll with zero flavor($7HH), the deep fried hamachi roll with zero flavor ($22), some of the most mid teriyaki chicken I have ever tasted($25), and a large hot sake($14).
I could almost give the cost a pass bc of being in downtown Petaluma, but the service was ABYSMAL. We walk in and get seated at about 5:13 and at this time we are the only ones in. It takes about 10 minutes for the waiter to come around and ask if we want anything else. At that point we go ahead and place our entire order to get it done. No one checks on us during our meal, even when dropping off food. We wait for about another 10 minutes until someone notices we are done. They bring the dessert menu. Wait again. Order the basque cheesecake. I LOVE basque cheesecake and you don't see it often. Wait. Again. Waiter drops the bill off, apologizes for the wait, makes no mention of the cheesecake, it's not on the bill.
We debate for a second to ask about the cheesecake, but are on a bit of a clock and at this point we have been there for about an hour and 20 minutes, of which about only 30, tops, was spent with our food and drink. I pay, because I was embarrassed as this restaurant was my choice and I didn't want to make my friend shell out half the bill for mediocrity, with a 10% tip and no shame, and leave.
Will not be back. Recommend you don't go either. Paradise doesn't have the variety, and the quality is just a point lower, but it's ayce for $37pp, would have walked out with the same bill and way more satisfied than here. Otherwise literal any other sushi place will be just as good and a little cheaper.
Seems like the kind of place people rave about because it's expensive, not because...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBest sushi. Best sushi chef. Fresh. Fresh. Fresh. Chef Eiji is a master at creating a welcoming, comfortable, and exciting space to indulge and explore a variety of familiar and unfamiliar yet enticing dishes that are a feast for all senses. If you know your shit, check out the specials. Back then, I did not know my shit. It took me a few visits until I was brave enough to try one of Chef's specials (that shit looked like alien food to me.) Now, I still don't know my shit, but I know I absolutely trust Chef Eiji, and you will, too. He takes care of you, is the simplest way I can put it. These days I just sit at the sushi bar and let Chef decide what I eat. I enjoy a libation and watch Chef's skilled knife work as he efficiently slices and assembled works of culinary art. You think I'm joking? Go see for yourself. Sit at the bar. Peep the knife skills. Taste the perfection. You're welcome. But wait... there's more. Sake 107 has dessert equally as impressive as their sushi. Ayako (who may have greeted you at the door and served your food) is a Michelin Star quality pastry chef, bringing unique and exquisite desserts to the Sake 107 menu. She's so humble, it's maddening. Don't let that shit fool you, she's an absolute beast in the kitchen. Check out her Instagram. It's mind boggling why she doesn't own her own high-end patisserie. Anyhooo, this review is making me hungry. I think I'm going to Sake 107 tonight. Maybe I'll...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter reading reviews like Joseph Hansen's and Julie C's, its almost too ridiculous to take their reviews seriously. I have tried 90% of the sushi restaurants in Sonoma County. Sushi is my favorite food. When I see reviews like the two I have mentioned, I have to think...why do people make terrible reviews of great restaurants when their tastebuds are obviously lacking as well as their knowledge of ingredients, pricing of said ingredients, etc. When Julie compared Sake 107 to Paradise I cackled. You are comparing super high quality to low quality fish. You are comparing wild caught fish to farm raised. People like Julie go to cheapy sushi restaurants and claim they are experts on sushi but order rolls that are severelly drenched in sauces to overcome the fact that the fish quality is lacking. And then, when you see someone like Joseph Hansen give such a poor review because the pricepoint wasn't something he could afford....did you not look at the menu before you made a reservation or better yet ordered your food. We pay for quality. We pay for good service. We pay for attention to detail. These are just some of the reasons Sake 107 prevails.
Note: I have no affiliation to Sake 107 other than being a stan for them. It bothers me to see people leave poor reviews when said reviews really hurt a...
