Croaker's Spot Petersburg — Restaurant in Petersburg

We visited this establishment on the 11/16/24. The only reason that we went with the petersburg location of Croaker spot is because the Richmond location could not accommodate a party of 22. We came to celebrate our Aunts 78th birthday and it went absolutely disastrous. Joyce called a week in advance advise of the party size of 22 to ensure there wouldn't be any issues. She was told her reservation was for 5pm. She along with 13 of our party members were there by 5pm. Joyce got there at 430. The remaining party arrived between 515 and 530. There is a sign at the hostess stand that said at least 10 of the party needs to be present to seat and again 13 were already there. -Herein lies the problem. When Joyce arrived at 430 she tried to checking but the manager on duty wouldn't allow it. By 5 45 the manager finally placed our party on queue to be seated. S.N. This manager not only lacked professionalism but looked unkempt. Her button up shirt was undone exposing her undergarments as if she got dressed in the dark and her eyelashes looked like 1 good wind and they'd fall in someone's food. This manager advised that she would stop seating the section to the left of the stand closer towards the kitchen. All went well until our last table of the party was to be seated. There was a 6top table coming avaliable and this same manage said once they leave we will seat you. In the meantime she sat another party waiting on the opposite side of the restaurant in the 1st booth nearest the door(this is not the issue). The issue came in where she seated our party in 2 booths and 2 tables infront of the booths children and elders but she decided to re-seat the party that sat in the booth on the right side of the building in the 6top that she advise was for us. Then proceeded to tell us because they were here 1st and we're already seated the made the switch. Our last few guest were told we'd have to sit in their original booth on the right side of the building away from our kids. Now circling back to the beginning remember I said my party arrived between 430-5pm. The party she moved to the 6top she said would be ours came around 645-7pm. So make that make sense. Also the booth that contained the children received their food after 8pm after everyone began checking out. The server designated to the kids table which had 2 adults sitting with them placed their order it was never put in. Their server walked to the booth on the right side of the door if your facing the hostess stand, advised there was a "mixup" and needed to give our server the orders 20min ltr although again there were 2 adults in that booth at the time the original order was placed. I know for sure the order was place because my son called to verify what he could order to drink and overheard 1 adult submitting her order for her and her 2 children and husband. So fast forward I order the same thing my son order for his meal again. You'd think the food would arrive at the same time Mines did but no. 2 hours later we were still allowing about food. Needless to say that whole table got comp'd because 6 orders were placed 2x and never received.- Here's some facts customer service regardless of food quality will tank your business I know you guys have been a hit for years but you might want to get you staff some training. They walked by tables rolling their eyes ( the skinny busser girl). It's not your entire staff. Our server sorry I forgot his name but dark skinned clean cut young man was awesome. He kept the lines of communication open. Fact 2: discrimination is a horrible thing in the black community already 😒 my entire family came out ready to spend. I paid 75 dollars just for myself and left him a 15 dollar tip. So don't go with they wanted something free all we wanted was a good time to enjoy our aunt as we just buried her sister 2 months ago. Fact 3 It takes nothing to show compassion and follow through on your word. Fact 4 I would never visit this location and ive love your food. I wish yall would open the Norfolk location back up. December 23 2023 I was in Richmond Virginia.Looking forward and been bragging @Croakers spot in general..So stop in Petersburg Virginia, I stopped at this one , it was on our route because I didn't want to go all the way into south side to the one on Hull Street. I looked it up online I remember when the C. spot was on 2nd Street off of Broad Street Richmond Virginia. My first meal there was the Fish Boat, delicious delicious delicious when it was on 2nd st..around the corner from Planters Peanut Shop so yes that was back in the day. Doing this particular time I was in Virginia because I had lost my daughter back in April two days after my birthday..2023 ...so I was there in Richmond Va ,December 23rd to celebrate this meal she to once enjoyed when she was alive, all in honor of my deceased daughter with her sister and her neice! plus my partner I had Brag so much only to Be totally let down.We was going to celebrate by having a meal from Croakers Spot. the night before going to the Christmas lighting at the Botanica Garden on Christmas Eve 24th 2023 with my younger daughter and granddaughter. I order the fish boat I order oysters the half and half drink more tea than other half of mixture.,and I order a piece of choc cake, my partner order oysters and a shrimp dinner with 2 sides and out of the entire meal which cost us over $100 plus tip greatly.He called it in 1hour b4 time and still there in time to pick up around 8:30p the 23rd of Dec which was Friday evening. It took still took 30-45 minutes wait..to receive our order Only to get to the hotel thinking we was going to have an enjoyable meal we were tired and hungry so excited to once get my Croaker's Omg I had brag so much about it when it was on 2nd Street . Didn't want to go to the one on Hull Street because we was coming from North Carolina off of 95 through Petersburg before we got to Richmond .Well I'm here to tell you looks is deceiving the entired meal was horrible the cornbread was good but broken all up I don't know what happened to the Fishboat,onions potatoes/peppers red sauce totally dissipated!!!It was horrible also appearance. the potatoes/ peppers weren't like they used to be and the fish wasn't even tastefully steam like it used to be in the fish boat it was fried I was totally totally disappointed in both our meals $100 plus for what... I could have went to Burger King, Arby's and McDonald's and got my taste buds a tiny bit satisfied and came home with some change. I should have called the owner the next day but I was in a grieving process of losing my daughter and was there to celebrate with my younger daughter and granddaughter in honor of my child passing plus she loved the orginal Croakers fish Boat..Taught me never ever will stop in Petersburg at the Croaker"s Spot again. Do I feel they owe me yes do I feel I should get some kind of tokens of appreciation,coupon to try to make this right Yes! @Croaker's Spot ..Did I call the manager the next day no Bad on my part but Remember I was thing Grieving and still is.Now hope you all that read understand have some Empathy on why lesser Stars by me.Jusy was dissatisfied. I'm just getting around to writing this review because it's coming up on the first year anniversary of my deceased daughter definitely will be going back to Virginia but not to Croakers Spots in Petersburg !!! time to try out another place , almost afraid to try the one out on Hull Street I haven't been reading too much of a good report from that one either. LONG POST!!!!! The 3 stars is an average of 5 stars for Nico's amazing service and 1 star for Demetrice's not so kind tone!!!!! We visited on Saturday with a group of 13 (7 ladies, 6 guys) and learned that you need to call some days ahead if it's a party of 10 or more, if you want to be seated together. Otherwise, you will have to be seated separately and I mean like fully separate... not even side by side tables. So make your reservations in advance!!! However, the manager on duty and hostess was very kind when explaining the policies and tried their best to appease us without breaking the policies put in place. The issue: So, we had two servers: the ladies had Nico, who was just simply amazing and was tipped veryy well for it, and the guys had Demetrice who seemed to had somewhat of an aggressive/sarcastic tone. I really didn't care for the way she was talking to the fellas.. especially when talking to my husband because he's super polite and understanding. I'm just going to speak on the incident that I did hear: So, he ordered the Shrimp Po Boy, which comes with fries automatically, but he also wanted a salad ON THE SIDE! So at the end of everyone ordering, he clarified that fries do come with the sandwich, her response in a undeserving tone was, "Yeah it do, but it don't matter because you substituted them for a side salad." First off, he never used the words substitute, and as the server, maybe you could've taken an extra few seconds to clarify the guest's order and secondly, it does matter because that was a missed opportunity to upsell. This prompted me to go over to the guy's table to make sure he got what he wanted, but by then his irritation sat in because he said that was her 2nd time "coming off." So he decided to just leave the order as she had it and skip the fries. This was our first time experiencing any type of rude behavior at this location, ANDDD this was repeated rudeness. I drive from Richmond to this location at least once a month, but it's normally during the week and we mostly get our favorite server, Norman (he's so bubbly, welcoming, and just phenomal, but only works M-F😌). The food, service, and just overall dining experience is normally top notch. Others in our party drove from Williamsburg and was very put off with her attitude, and was looking at me crazy for suggesting here. I told them that wasn't the norm. I'm hoping this was an off day for Demetrice.. and although her tip was about 27.5% of the tab.. she could've got more had her demeanor been on point!

Oh yeah... but try the Sherita Shot to amp up your great dining experience, and to help smooth over one that's going halfway decent.. I wanted about 5 more of them thangs, but wanted to drink and drive...
