We visited for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The decor was sweet; furnishings were old kitchen tables and the humorous "tomato" theme meant there was lots of fun stuff on the wall to look at. We ordered at the counter, stopped with our mugs at the self-serve coffee bar, and our food was then brought to our table a short while later. Staff was friendly and we had a fine breakfast.
So, why only four stars? The menu was terrific for meat, egg and dairy eaters, but the lack of plant-based options basically limited my wife and me to oatmeal, fruit and dry toast. No plant-based milk option either. It can't be that hard to have some unsweetened non-dairy beverage in the fridge, can it?
I later checked all their online menus and there was only one food item I could eat without modification: fruit cup. What we had was great. Leave off the sugar and cream and the oatmeal was nice. (I'd go back just for the unbuttered Roasted Seed toast from Crooked Tree Breadworks, a local Petoskey bakery!) But in my opinion a fairly new restaurant could do just a tiny bit more to accommodate plant-based eaters.
If that doesn't matter to you, by all means stop by a cute place that, for me, is just one box of Silk away...
Read moreLooks like it would have been a really wonderful Greek Salad - fresh ingredients and all the right fixings. Just wish the server had put dressing in our “to go” bag... it’s just not the same without Greek dressing, which we did not have on hand at home. Wasn’t going to drive 30 miles to go back and get it. I had also asked for no olives and the chef put them on.
Those are two things that kind of ensure that we usually won’t go back to an establishment.
UPDATE: We did go back the next week and tried our order again. This time, not only was it perfect, but when it was brought out to curbside, we were surprised that the Owner knew us by name. They all took the review very seriously, apologized for the previous week, and assured us that was not their typical service. She thanked us for giving them another chance and very kindly handed us a gift card for a future order. Way above and beyond to make it right. Now THAT...
Read moreWhat a find!! I was in town for work from NJ and just stumbled into this gem with some coworkers. Three of us had tomato soup to start which was perfect with the snowy weather. The sandwiches were just layers of yum! I had a turkey club. The bread was hardy, the turkey was fresh, the avocado was ripe, the smoked cheddar and tomato mayo added such wonderful flavors! I feel silly raving about a sandwich like this but it was truly THAT good. Now...the people...SO nice and very attentive. Oh my goodness and I almost forgot about the deserts! Peanut butter bars and their cookies - there just are no words!! Thank you, Julie and team, for a...
