I have a strong suspicion that Anthony's business has changed hands. Every winter, my wife and I would patronize Anthony's for their delicious breakfast and chocolate. However, today's experience was vastly different from what we've grown accustomed to, leaving us thoroughly dissatisfied and disappointed.
The customer service has deteriorated significantly. Previously, we were attended to by professional adults who provided excellent service. Now, the establishment seems to be staffed by inexperienced young individuals with an unpleasant attitude.
The food quality has also taken a turn for the worse. For instance, the eggs taste overly processed, and their shape suggests they're cooked in a mold rather than on the grill. The sandwiches no longer come with sufficient bacon, and the chocolate-filled bread lacks adequate chocolate filling. Furthermore, they've replaced Heinz ketchup with the cheaper French's alternative.
Honestly, we no longer believe it's worth returning to this establishment, which is unfortunate, given it was our favorite. I also suspect that the business may have been acquired by new ownership, unfortunately, this often results in a decline in product quality.
It raises questions as to why changes were necessary in the first place, considering the product was excellent and the food was rich. Was it not sufficient replacing the previous staff with younger individuals and pay them...
Read moreIf I could give this place a -100, I would have. First, I wanted a tiramisu but they’re bakery wasn’t open... I’ve never been to an Italian place that doesn’t serve tiramisu all day. So then I ordered their canolli, chocolate gelato, and milk chocolate covered s’mores. When I took my first bite of my canolli, it did NOT taste good at all. The shell was so soggy that it was mixed with the filling.... Then I found a dark brown short hair in my canolli.... (I have blonde long hair). Then I asked for a new one and they barely apologized. At any other place they would be sincerely apologetic and refund me... The workers then gave me a new canolli and before I even took a bite out of this one, I inspected it to discover a red fuzz.... Since it was only a fuzz I didn’t want to go back in but it still made me angry. The gelato was actually pretty good but then when we got to the milk chocolate covered s’mores, it tasted old and like cardboard. The marshmallow wasn’t soft or gooey at all like it usually is in other chocolate covered s’mores. The marshmallow was hard and was hard to tear with my teeth... and the graham cracker didn’t taste like a graham cracker should, it literally tasted like cardboard. I will never be returning to this nasty, wannabe...
Read moreAnthony's is a cute and cozy coffee shop located in the historic Philly Italian market. We came for a late breakfast Saturday morning and received a friendly welcome. We ordered the house specialty breakfast panini, The Gavone. A Gavone is italian american slang for someone who eats too much, and this sandwich fits the bill. A huge flakey croissant is stuffed with two scrambled eggs, crispy bacon and prosciutto, sweet peppers, spinach, and melted cheese. While the bacon and prosciutto were salty, the spinach and eggs canceled this out and could have used a bit more seasoning. These are minor criticisms, and overall this is definitely one of the better breakfast sandwiches I've had in Philly, sure to satisfy, and at $7 bucks is a lot of food for not too much dough. For dessert grab one of their delicious sfogliatelle, a flakey layered italian pastry pleasantly flavored with citrus and filled with sweetened ricotta cheese. Smooth and delicious iced coffee rounds out the perfect laid back Saturday morning in the...
