Food was good as always, service was not. I ordered a roast pork hoagie to go. I was planning to eat it on the plane, but when I got the sandwich it wasn't wrapped (it's pretty standard to wrap a sandwich to go, yeah?). It was in a loose container with cheese sauce oozing from all directions of the sandwich. I was concerned that if I walked to the gate, boarded the plane, sat in my seat, and waited until after takeoff, the container and sandwich would become a sloppy, cheesy, gooey mess. I decided to sit down at the restaurant where I ordered the food gasp. One would assume that is okay, especially given most of the seating was high-top bar-style seating and the restaurant had a sign that said "please seat yourself". Being the rebel I am, I sat myself at an empty table gasp. After sitting at an empty table in the mostly empty restaurant you'd think I was being blatantly disrespectful to the staff with the way I was treated. As soon as I got situated and took the first bite out of my hoagie, a server came over and told me I had to get up because I ordered my food to-go. She pointed to a food court that was about 100 feet away. I'm a customer at the restaurant, eating food that I ordered at the restaurant, most of the tables in your section have no one seated at them... and instead of asking me if I needed a drink (I didn't have one), I get guilt-tripped for sitting down. When I tried to explain the situation to her she started to talk over me and not listen to a word I said. Great service Chickie's and Petes. I've served tables in the past and am aware of how it works. I was not taking income away from this server, as she had at least four empty tables and there was no wait. If she had treated me more respectfully, I likely would have tipped her. If I had food from another restaurant, I'd understand. If it was crowded and there was a wait, I'd understand. But, I ordered from Chickie's and Petes and sat down at Chickie's and Petes, then was treated poorly by the Chickie's and Petes staff because I misunderstood what "please seat yourself" meant. A well-managed restaurant would be hospitable to a customer that changed their mind and offer that customer service instead of shooing them to a food court...

An open letter to Chickie’s and Pete’s
Hey Chickie’s and Pete’s Drexel Hill!!
Remember that time you guys were charging your employees $5 for a new POS card? And then that one employee called HR and reported you. And then HR basically did nothing about it except stop Tom Carroll, GM from doing it. Thanks for your dedication to Human Resources, Nikki Bounds. I can tell your loyalty is with ALL employees, not just management.
Although your GM got away with STEALING from your employees and opening a business within a business, you’re still a WONDERFUL place to work and I’m sure all your employees would agree.
There’s a few more horror stories I’ll be sharing with you all periodically.
Examples: that time I watched a member of management have a shot of liquor right at the bar while he was the ONLY manager on duty. (Also caught that on film, just in case you wanted to see it) Oh hey, Scott!
That other time where a KITCHEN MANAGER served pasta to the staff after it had sat out in a 90 plus degree kitchen for 8 hours? Not to mention, ALL THREE of the trays of pasta contained cheese. Hi there, Sean!
How about the time where after an employee reported management to HR he was written up TWICE for calling out the next day and “disrespecting” the very same KM who served bad food to his employees. And then the following day he purposely had another employee no-call, no-show just to see if she’d be written up? To no surprise, that other employee was not written up. Talk about retaliation. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal. Again, Hi Tom, Hi Scott, and hey Nikki Bounds.
The dedication to your employees is IMMENSELY LACKING.
Just, do better Chickie’s. Be better.
Managers need to be placed under a microscope apparently. They should stop worrying about things like employees choosing to eat their free meal OUTSIDE of the restaurant and maybe start worrying about things like: fair treatment to all employees, respectful behavior amongst kitchen and FOH staff, sexual harassment training, food safety (especially for those whose position is of management IN the kitchen)
Sincerely,
A former employee who gladly quit on his own...
Read moreMy friend and I were walking out of our gate when we saw this place. It seemed promising with all of its giant posters and banners with their awards and their beautiful restaurant so we decided to walk in and sit. There was one other customer there when we first got in and many, many servers and waiters but no one bothered to even look at us. We had to wait a bit of time to get the servers attention to just get some water and order some food. I wasn't feeling anything bready so I decided to get some hot shrimp. The hot shrimp was pretty good, I was told that it was a pick and peel shrimp and I was completely ok with it. I wish that the shrimp held most of the flavor from the oil, but I had to continuously dip the shrimp in the oil and the cocktail sauce to get any flavor. It was good flavor, when I got some. My friend had their blue cheese chicken cheesesteak. Unfortunately, this was a complete loss. The cheese sauce did nothing to mask how dry the whole sandwich was. She had to drink multiple cups of water just to be able to finish half of the sandwich. The winner winner here were their famous crab fries. We decided to get their mix and wow... I'm so happy we did. The cheese sauce was so good with the regular fries and their cinnamon sweet potato fries with their warm maple syrup sauce... HEAVEN! I would only ONLY come here for the fries as a snack and...
