Fairmount Flavors — Restaurant in Philadelphia

It has been a long time since I have been here and I'm mad that I came with my bf today thinking I was taking him to the best ice cream place b/c he never been. His first and his last time b/c he did not like the overall experience. I'm not sure if they changed owners since the last I was there but they have changed for the worst .The service is bad and the floor had sticky water ice everywhere and no one came to try to clean it up .The lines were long which was to be expected but the pick up line was not moving. Then people who ordered after you stuff came before yours. The list of ice cream they have was not accurate b/c they ran out of so many of the flavors. They actually had a list of flavors written on a cookie sheet that they said was the flavors they had which also was not completely accurate. It was as if they did not remember which flavors they had and which they did not. They no longer do the waffle ice cream sandwich which I use to love and they cookies looked hard as if they sit out all day. When I got to the front of the line the girl asked how can she help me and then proceeded to speak in spanish to one of the workers. I actually had to ask if she was going to help me or not for her to stop talking and pay attention to the customer she had right in front of her. ALL I WANTED WAS A LARGE ICE CREAM CONE THE WAY THAT I WANTED IT MADE!!! HOWEVER, THE LITTLE CASHIER AT THE RIGHT SIDE WINDOW HAD A BAD ATTITUDE AND DID IT SHOW TONIGHT. SHE BECAME FRUSTRATED BECAUSE I ORDERED A CONE THE WAY I HAD THE LAST TWO VISITS, BUT NOPE SHE WASN'T HAVING IT MY WAY. IT BECAME SO BAD THAT A CUSTOMER TWO PEOPLE BEHIND ME STEPPED IN TO CORRECT HER ABOUT HOW CONES ARE MADE THERE. I NEVER FUSS BACK WITH CASHIERS. I EITHER LEAVE AND NEVER RETURN OR IF I WANT THE PRODUCT BAD ENOUGH, I'LL BUY, LEAVE, AND WRITE A REVEIW. AFTER MY LAST REQUEST TO A CONE THAT SHE REVAMPED TO ADD CARAMEL, YET AGAIN, SHE TOLD ME THAT THE PEOPLE WHO MAKES THE CONES CAN NOT DRIZZLE ANY CARAMEL IN THE CONE. I ASKED IF SHE COULD LET THE PREPARERS KNOW TO DRIZZLE SOME CARAMEL IN THE CONE. SHE SAID IM ADDING IT TO THE ORDER. AND BECAUSE OF THE NASTY LOOK THAT SHE GAVE ME, I KNEW HOW THE CONE WAS GOING TO TURN OUT. SO I RECEIVED A CONE HALF FILLED WITH CARAMEL WHICH IS NOT THE CONE MAKERS FAULT. HOWEVER, IF THE CASHIER WHO THOUGHT THAT SHE WAS CUTE, JUST LISTEN MORE AND SPEAK LESS, MY CLOSE TO $13 CONE WOULD HAVE BEEN EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE CONE WAS WASTED BECAUSE THE CUSTOMER'S REQUEST WAS NOT TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. I WILL RESUME LEAVING THE AREA AND GOING OUT OF MY WAY FOR BETTER ICE CREAM WATER ICE...

As an avid member of the cult following of the preceding “Philly flavors” I’d like to say that the new ownership and name of Fairmount Flavors has its pros and cons, but carries the weight well. The flavors of the ice cream are rich and tasteful, some are on the overly sweet side (coming from an extreme sweet toothed person) and some of the water ice flavors can be a hit or miss due to its watery/icey-ness (In not the best way as the flavor seems muted). Some flavors are beautifully as close to natural as an ice cream shop can get, while others are laughably artificial. Yes, I’m looking at you, pistachio ice cream.

However, my last visit encouraged me to leave a review as I tried the black cherry ice cream (8/10, very sweet but a good balance with the natural cherries, almost like dark maraschino) and a gelati of mango ice cream and mango water ice. Both flavors were great especially together, however i would prefer to do without the fruit flies that may be embedded in the barrel at this point. (I can’t blame them, I’d live in there too!)
