Flakely Gluten Free MANAYUNK — Restaurant in Philadelphia

My wife has been gluten free for 10 years and while it was a struggle at first we’ve managed to find some amazing restaurants and baking recipes to satisfy our bread-craving needs. We moved to Philadelphia from Chicago last year and she was excited to try Flakely. We ordered some bagels and Danishes and were surprised not only at the cost ($20/4 bagels) but also at the fact they were frozen (why not fresh?). The bagels were dense and hard as rocks (yes, we thawed them) and in spite of their decent flavor were all wrong texture wise. The Danishes were also disappointing, again we could see what Flakely was going for flavor wise but the texture left much to be desired. My wife and I are avid bakers and have made some spectacular cakes, pies, muffins, fritters, cookies and all sorts of gluten free baked goods better than what we had from Flakely. As someone who has dealt with Celiac disease for over 12 years… kitchens that offer truly, 100% gluten free baked goods are few and far between. I stumbled upon Flakely shortly after moving to Manayunk and I’m so thankful I did. I have stopped in almost monthly since for bread/bagels/Cinnamon buns and many of her weekly specials, which are all some of the best I have had in my search for gluten free foods. Easy instructions for reheating each product is printed directly on the container, taking any question out of how to best enjoy each of these delicious baked goods. Highly recommend the shorty rolls or Baguette for some homemade Philly cheesesteaks - something that has been near impossible to find...

I’ve been enjoying Lila’s GF creations since before she has her storefront. I’d order her pies and pick them up from her house for thanksgiving. I’m not celiac however do have Crohn’s disease and several other food sensitivities and enjoyed her desserts, with my family who all raved of their flavor. i also worked with Lila on some business collabs when she was first starting her small business.
