We checked out the Ground Up Cafe & Coffee shop last week in South Philly. This a great little coffee shop on East Passyunk. The decor was simple and fun with just a hint of an European vibe. Bistro seating was available inside and outside. It was very comfortable overall. The menu offered many choices from prepared sandwiches to baked goods. I wasn’t planning on eating, but then I saw scones - I had to try one. Cranberry - and it was delicious! The coffee was also very good (definitely made note of that for the next time I am in the neighborhood). The barista was also very pleasant. This is a great café to try while out and about shopping on East Passyunk. I’ll be back! #trustkj

I stumbled upon Ground Up on my way home from another coffee shop. Right away I was drawn to the cafe with it's simple, comfortable interior and local products (they serve Elixr Coffee!). The tables and chairs inside remind me a bit of the cafes in Paris with their outdoor/indoor decor. However, the seats are quite comfortable and there's ample seating within the store, enough for small groups to hang out. The owner went to culinary school and every Saturday serves a new breakfast special. Her cooking is amazing, she creates these delectable sandwiches with peppers and onions that just dissolve with how soft they are.

I had high hopes for this place because of how cute the outside is. The coffee was subpar because my hot dirty chai and iced mocha just tasted like espresso. I was hoping for some spiced flavor. The long sandwiches were kind of mid and bland. I had to drench my sandwich in hot sauce for some flavor. Compared to all the cafes in Philly, I just know there’s a few with better coffee and sandwiches. Also, there were a lot of flies in the seating area, although it was inside and in the back. I did like how each table had a cup of cute questions to ask your companions.

UPDATE: Stopped in with my mom today while in the neighborhood. Honey lavender latte was amazing. And so was the BEC sandwich as always. Really appreciate the kind response to my last review and wanted to update my rating because this place is overall amazing! Thanks again

I live in Jersey but have a friend who owns a business up the road from this cafe. So anytime I’m in the area I’m excited to come in for a coffee and breakfast sandwich. The first time I was blown away by this place, it’s very nice with great options. Yesterday I went in and ordered the oat milk strawberry matcha with a BEC sandwich. The matcha was brown and tasted as awful as it looked. It was very watery, not creamy like an oat milk chai should be. And I guess the brown was from them mixing a strawberry syrup with the matcha. Wasn’t good at all, and when I asked the girl who made it if it was made with oat milk she just replied “yea”. I regret not asking them to remake it or swap for something different. I visibly was not enjoying it. But I will say that this place has the best BEC sandwich I’ve ever had and...

I LOVE ground up! The owner, Jen, is so sweet and an incredibly hard worker. To see her make it through the COVID pandemic is more than wonderful. They are fast and their food and coffee is EXCELLENT. For breakfast I love the wraps, the hoagie with potatoes on it is fire and if you want something extra yummy and greasy you got to try the ham and egg croissant with an egg on it!!!! The pastries are great. They are what you think of when you get that type of pastry- I love the chocolate scone- especially heated up a bit. For lunch the chicken salad is maybe the best I’ve had. Also, I would bring in my dog, Winnie, and she’d always give a treat and a pet.

Please check out ground up- they are also excellent for ordering online for pickup or delivery. My wife orders on Grubhub and they are pretty quick and easy for delivery.

Just check it out. You won’t be...

Horrible customer service. I work nearby and visited this shop twice. Both times greeted by Elizabeth, who greets me with no smile, very dismissive. They gave me hard time bc I asked for extra sugar because you can not modify your drink. “We don’t add sugar, because it’s sweet enough already. So we just have you guys ask for it on the side” It’s my preference so it shouldn’t matter if I’m willing to pay. The second time I came will be the last, walked to be greeted by Elizabeth with a straight face, I asked for liquid sugar, she respond “what?” I repeated “May I have a little more extra sugar added?” Elizabeth handed me the bottle and walked away. Horrible service she’s lucky I didn’t return the energy. Never returning again. PLEASE THINK TWICE ABOUT VISITING THIS SHOP IF...
