Now that's what I call a hoagie. Picked up Mi Pals for the first time today, and it definitely won't be the last time!
The Inferno Italian and Caprese Cutlet were both executed perfectly. The seeded rolls were fresh and soft with a great chew. The fill on both sandwiches had a nicely balanced ratio of quality ingredients and the perfect amount of moisture. I was also impressed with how well they traveled — these bad boys took a 20ish minute walk home with me and were still slap-your-momma good by the time I made it home. Hard to say which 'wich was better because they were both so different. As a spicy lover I was in heaven inhaling the inferno — the long hots bring a great level of heat that warms up the palate but doesn't overwhelm the flavors of the capicola, prosciutto, & provolone. On the flip side the quality of the cutlet, sweetness of the balsamic and creaminess of the mozz on the caprese my husband picked almost made me cry tears of joy. Either pick is a fantastic choice that I'd recommend whole-heartedly.
The affordable pricing makes this corner joint a great value and eases any guilt I may feel about future hoagie binges. I have plans to sample different sandwiches and some of the tasty-looking sides sometime soon, so feel free to follow my posts if you'd be interested in reading my update!
Edit: Round 2! Made it about a week before I had to go back. Tried the inferno turkey this time along with the potato salad, while my husband requested the caprese cutlet — unsurprisingly, given he has awarded this hoagie GOAT status. These absolute legends did it AGAIN. Consistency for this Deli is on point. The potato salad was good, but not quite on the cosmic level of Mi Pal's hoagie game. The turkey inferno is phenomenal (added some roasted red peppers to get some extra veg & feel better about housing this monster) but I feel I have to give a slight edge to...
Read moreJust horrible. We ordered a bunch or platters of chicken fingers and cheese fries. We waited over an hr the food was cold and the fingers was so dark and burnt. The hoagie bread was hard. Then none of the platters had no cheese on them. The food had no taste n this was 11a.n so the oil should’ve been fresh and so should the bread. And the chicken fingers tasted burnt. I called To tell them he hang up on me. I call Back like why you hang up he says I’m yelling i wasn’t yelling I’m telling you it taste burnt and Is black. Bad food bag customer service will not eat from here and will tell everybody else not to either. Now updated they are all throwing up from eating the food I’m glad i didn’t take one bite of it. All 3 of...
Read moreI don’t know what happened to my neighborhood deli, or who these kids are inside, but I’m floored. It’s 4:30, and they’re “closed.” “We have no bread.” As if that explains away the case full of food right in front of me. I have made the trip to this store from every home I’ve had since first discovering Mi-Pals in early July 1992 when I moved to 1708 Jackson St. That includes moves not just to the suburbs, but Detroit, Charleston, and Connecticut. This place has been my touchstone. It’s where I come for my mouth to taste home. I’m sitting here crying because this girl just walked out the back door with “not food” in her bag. It was nice while it lasted, Mi-pals. Good luck...
