Ray's 'Happy Birthday' Bar — Restaurant in Philadelphia

I've had some good times at this bar but I won't ever be going back. Me and several friends went here and were refused service because she felt our IDs were inadequate. I'm 27 and have been to this bar many times in the past I even have a t-shirt from the bar. She scanned our IDs and told us they were false and she would not serve us. After politely explaining there must be a mistake she eventually scanned my ID agian and it went through. She continued to refuse me service then refused service to a friend who's ID had already been scanned and passed. Normally I would just move on to the next bar but it was my last opportunity to see a good friend before she moved to Alaska so I stayed without being served. She ruined the vibe for the whole night by treating us so poorly and ruined my perception of the bar completely. I don't know why she didn't want to do her job but tonight it was not "one of the best dive bars in america" it was more like a stupid...

I was super excited to come here because I saw an Anthony Bourdain episode about the place. Unfortunately, the DJ and bartender were extremely rude to my POC friends. I was actually in shock and I don’t say this lightly, the workers were clearly racist to my friends. My friend Maria picked a song with Spanish in it to sing for karaoke and the DJ was visibly upset about it and walked away from her when she asked a question about the process of how karaoke worked at this bar AND THEN turned her mic off during the song. The bartender was actively only ignoring my friends from Israel, and then was rude to their face. It’s actually crazy to me seeing this, and I just had to write a review to warn people. You will not feel welcome here unless you are a regular. I don’t support racism, discrimination, or bigotry. I witnessed a young trendy couple with their friends think it was a good idea to bring their baby into this bar, which is ill advised to say the least (this is still a smoking bar afterall). Luckily, for better or worse, the locals picked up on this quite quickly and politely asked them to leave in their native Philadelphia tongue. After the group had exited, the outraged male of the couple stormed back in exclaiming "we aren't from here!" Once again, the locals explained to this man that taking to your baby to a dive bar at midnight exhibits poor decision making and parental instincts and that he should leave immediately. Welcome...
