I'm very skeptical of hotel-adjacent restaurants but this spot really should not be put in that category. It's new and maybe has some growing pains but really is worth the try.
Have to start with the service. Alexander was so pleasant and answered every question I had with a thoughtful and educated answer-for example: what is DOP tomato (plz ask). You can tell that the staff enjoy what they do and believe in the spirit of the restaurant.
Turning to the food, this was good-not great but eventually will be great. We weren't super inspired by the list of appetizers and ultimately went with the bomba calabrese (tuna-stuffed Calabrese cherry bomb peppers). This was a nice bite...it was worth trying. We were really torn about the pizzas as there is a good amount of options but not a ton of variety. Ultimately, we went with the bronte, our favorite of the night (pesto, mozzarella, mortadella, buratta, pistachios-what can go wrong?), and the night special of a fennel and lamb sausage combination. I'm not so used to having so much crust and so little base layer to substantiate the ingredients, but I realize this may be what makes a Neapolitan pizza? It just made it feel like the crust and breading was a skosh dry, so we ended up dipping into a side of olive oil.
In terms of growth, I think the layout of the restaurant needs reworking. The center bar is gorgeous, as are the window seats. The remaining tables seem a bit like an afterthought and need to be arranged differently because the space isn't being used as effectively as it can be. And I know this is nit-picky, but the dishware didn't seem to match the theme and could be improved upon. Overall, I think this place has a ton...
Read moreI want to start by saying that I love the pizza at this place, definitely the best Napoletana pizza in Philly. Unfortunately, apart from the food, we had a terrible experience and felt not welcomed at this restaurant at all. When we went there the restaurant was empty. My husband and I went at around 4pm for their happy hour menu and brought our little baby with us. We were helped by a waitress who seemed annoyed by our baby, and, made us move to different areas of the restaurant 3 times during our 1h stay. She got even more annoyed and angry when we asked for the happy hour menu. I want to emphasize that during our stay my baby was completely quiet, did not cry or cause any disturbance to anyone and the restaurant was empty the whole time of our stay and even when we left. Still she made us feel uncomfortable and would not stop looking at the stroller where our baby was. Again, the restaurant was completely empty and the stroller was not getting in anyone’s way. Turned out to be a terrible night for us. I would appreciate it if we were told babies are not welcomed at the restaurant, instead of taking us in, and giving us such a terrible dinning experience. Again absolutely love the food; just make sure you don't have babies/kids with you; the waitress will hate you if you do! Oh also; if you ask for the happy hour menu...
Read moreOn May 18th, we celebrated our son's 4th birthday at this wonderful pizzeria, and the experience was nothing short of enchanting.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the host, whose kindness and professionalism shone both over the phone and in person.
Our server, John Baron, truly made the evening unforgettable. He greeted us with a genuine smile and provided attentive, heartfelt service throughout our meal. At one point, he even sang "Happy Birthday" in Italian for our son and surprised him with a complimentary cannoli. John's demeanor was so gracious and polished that he reminded us of a Disney prince charming, elegant, and sincere.
The pizza was exceptional, capturing the authentic flavors of Italy. However, the chocolate gelato resembled a regular chocolate ice cream more than a traditional Italian gelato.
One minor note: the music was a touch too loud for our liking. A slightly lower volume would have made conversations more comfortable.
Overall, it was a delightful evening filled with warmth, delicious food, and exceptional service. We are grateful to John and the hostess for making our son's birthday...
