EDIT 1:
My original review did not include comments but since the owner asked me to provide comments, here I am.
Part of owner's reply: "Would you please be honest and tell us what to improve?
By the way just a curiosity you came to the store at 1:40 PM and looks like you had a great time at the store. "
First of all, I think it's creepy to go after your customers like that (I saw you did to other commentators as well). I did not stay and get into a verbal argument in a premise I do not intend to visit again yes.
I really visited this place with big anticipation having a Turkish spot walking distance from me. I was even planning to bring friends to treat them breakfast but good thing I tried if first by myself.
So, this place is like a school cafeteria type of place (you order from kiosk and carry your food in a plastic tray and sitting next to vrooming sound of the refrigerators) yet charges like a center city full-service restaurant. That's why you got 2* for the atmosphere.
The breakfast plate I had at this place was $19.99 and contained the amount of ingredients as a side salad you add to your entree at a restaurant for like $3.99. Just couple thin slices of tomato, cucumber, some greens(?), 3 olives and one overcooked egg. That's it, no tea (+$2.99 for a tiny cup) and not a slice of bread (simit is +$3.49). Listen to this, I am Turkish and never ever seen in my life tea and bread being extra for a Turkish breakfast. And for reference, and average Turkish breakfast plate contains like 4x amount and variety of food than this if not more.
(Also, I looked at their menu, their baklava prices are like 2-3x compared to other Turkish shops if anyone wants to know.)
I literally told my gf to leave quickly, and we took a walk to have lunch right after because I was still hungry and didn't want to pay another $19.99 for another side salad. We ate at a full-service restaurant and my dish there was for less ($19.00) lol.
EDIT 2 (Owner edited their reply):
I'll be clear. I just had left a review without comment. You asked me to provide comment. I provided the comment. And now you accuse me of causing a scene.
Expecting customers to beg for more food (that is not displayed anywhere in your menu) is weird. Tracking/rewatching customers from camera is also weird. And nobody will buy your take on defending small portions with being sustainable.
You mentioned your business may not be for everybody. I agree, that's what reviews are for. And my experience was not like the other 5* reviewers' which I started to question the...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting The Turkish Brew in Philadelphia, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and a cozy, inviting atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home. The menu offers a delightful array of authentic Turkish dishes and beverages. I started with a cup of their traditional Turkish Tea , which was rich, aromatic, and perfectly brewed. The Pistachios cake was a highlight – flaky, sweet, and absolutely delicious. I also tried the Gozleme, a Turkish baking bagel, which was and flavorful. The staff at Istanbul Café are incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that every guest feels welcomed and well taken care of. The décor is charming, with beautiful Turkish art and comfortable seating that adds to the overall ambiance. Whether you're looking for a place to enjoy a quiet coffee, have a casual meal with friends, or simply indulge in some delicious Turkish treats, Istanbul Café is the perfect spot. I highly recommend it to anyone in Philadelphia looking for an authentic and delightful Turkish...
Read moreWe visited this spot with a couple of friends after it was recommended to us. The place has a beautiful ambiance with stylish decor and very comfortable seating. The pastry display is especially tempting—it definitely encourages you to order more than you planned, in the best way!
However, there are a few downsides. The portion sizes for breakfast were quite disappointing, especially considering the current prices. They weren’t nearly enough for an average adult.
Service-wise, there were only two staff members working when we visited. One of them, a Turkish woman, was friendly and genuinely trying her best to keep up with the customers' needs. Unfortunately, the service was quite slow overall, and it felt like they were short-staffed. The other staff member seemed disengaged and tried to avoid interacting altogether, which didn’t help the experience.
Overall, I’d say this is more of a snack or coffee spot rather than a proper...
