Thee pink plate cafe — Restaurant in Philadelphia

So unbeknownst to me when I bumped into these young ladies at Walmart last week that they were the owners of this location and they invited me to stop by. last Friday I came home from work did not want cook, so I backed out and went here to pick up dinner.

Their new address is 1525 Wadsworth Ave, Phila,Pa 19150 not the Chelten Ave address.

The parking is street parking. It can be very hard so Pack patience; there's a little parking lot right down the street that you can park in and walk up.

When I walked in the place dine in area was crowded. A good sign! Its small and decorated so adorably. You can eat in you can even bring cake and walk in or make reservations and celebrate a birthday if you like. You can also order from food delivery places as well.

I ordered the turkey wings, mac & cheese, and cabbage. My order came out really quickly and it was hot. When I got home and opened up everything it smelled so delicious!!!! Now let's get to the food: the mac & cheese was a hit or miss because it was not stirred up good (things that can happen when making large batches) so the cheese and flavoring was not distributed evenly; every other bite or so was a good taste. If you like creamy and twangy mac & cheese like I do, you won't be impressed with this mac & cheese.

The cabbage lacked flavor, but it was cooked just right, not too hard and not too soft which I like.

Now, I've saved the best for last, the turkey wings!!!!!! when I say very, very favorable I mean those flavors danced on my tongue and made me very happy! So tender, I could pull the meat apart from the bone with my fork! I did not know that under the two nice sized turkey wings was yellow rice, and I know I would've tried a different side other than mac & cheese. The yellow rice was very flavorful. It led me to believe that maybe they cooked the rice in the broth from the turkey wings and that was OK with me! The rice was cooked right also. My platter was about $21. I had enough for the next day and the reheat of those turkey wings made me fall in love all over again had me talking out loud saying how good it was!!! Lol

Needless to say, I think I found my favorite thing here, but I will go back and try other things on the menu. I'm so excited that we have a new restaurant on The Ave and I hope that it has staying power. The owners are very lovely and engaging.

2nd September I went back again and ordered the following:

fried whiting: it was fried good and great flavor nice size pieces

garlic string beans: OMG they were soooo good!!! They were cooked perfect. The garlic flavor was there! I love garlic.

yellow rice. I had this on Friday and again it was good today also. And it tasted even better when I dipped it in the garlic sauce from the string beans. Yummy!

Side of potato salad: now I was literally about the potato salad and you know why ! Lol but I must say it was very delicious!!! The potatoes were cooked perfect and had a right amount of sweet tartness and mustard.

5.collard greens: not bad. Cooked just right. And they are plant base friendly.

I found out that they stopped taking orders 15 minutes...

I REALLY wanted to give this place a try. They advertised their $10 Wednesday special, which sounded great. I tried to call in an order and the phone alternated between being busy and ringing endlessly before dropping the call. This should have been my clue to abandon this effort. However, I had my sister stop there to place an in person order. When she got there they said they are no longer taking orders! Why not just put a message on your voicemail or PICK UP THE PHONE and let people know this so they don’t have to drive over there to be told you are not taking orders? My sister was told by an employee that she could wait until after they have completed their orders (about one hour) to see what is left 👀👀👀. Nope! Another employee mentioned that they were closing in 45 minutes (he apparently did not like this wait and see idea). Also, why do they have an online ordering option that does not include many of the menu items. Investing in a fully functioning online ordering system would be nice. I sincerely wish them well but I will not be...

The best fried fish I've had in some time from any restaurant. The food is so good. I had the fried fish platter and you know I had to pair it with mac and cheese and yams. They don't just give you small pieces of fish either. I was so full but I couldn't stop eating. I am a person who doesn't like reheated fish but the next day I popped it in my small convection oven at 350 on warm 5-10 minutes and it was still good. Food is flavorful and seasoned well. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful. Us girls love a good aesthetic especially for photos. I would definitely host a private event here. Let's talk about the staff: When I went there were a couple of young people working and shout out to them because they were very professional and I loved that. This is a black female owned business and I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and her sister they were all so welcoming, nice and attentive.
