Since the closure of the famous Thomasena Soul Food in northeast went out of business (correct me if I’m wrong), I’ve been seeking for my soul food spot in Philadelphia. Yesterday I had the pleasure to try out Tameka’s Soul Food at the last hour before closing. I was well attended by one of the employees with a warm welcome and smile. She was patient to explain every option available. I was impressed the restaurant still had many options available and still accepting last minute special orders during the hour before closing up. I did ordered a large platter of Turkey Wings, Mac and cheese, and collard greens including a dinner roll.
Why a 4 out of 5?
Pros: The large turkey wings were well seasoned and well cooked to the point the meat fell off the bones. The portion of both the Mac and cheese and collard greens was well served. The price was right for only $15 bucks. Easy to locate the restaurant, available options for parking, and wheelchair accessible.
Cons: The place had a strong smell of incense, a bit run down and could use some much needed work. The Mac & cheese could use some more cheese & flavor. The collard greens could use some more spice (my preference) and seasoning. Potato Salad was not on the menu 😭.
Overall, I do see potential for this location as my next go to soul food spot with some much needed improvements on the inside and a bit more love with the food...
Read moreI give 5 Stars because… I saw a video with JL Jupiter (YouTube) and he was eating here and he gave such a good review and the food looked so good. So I had to try. They close at 6pm and I called in around 5 ish for pick up… The lady was really nice. I ordered a large fried chix platter /w double Mac they were out of yams (goes to show they must be really good 😊) I then ordered a large turkey wing platter /w Mac and collards.. I must say even though they ran out of yams she STILL scraped the lil bit that was left into the platter.. THATS LOVE ❤️. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TYEMEKA’s The food was really good and it didn’t need anything on it. Old school cooking at its best 💯. Being a Chef myself for over 25 yrs I was really satisfied and definitely will be back, but this time I will make sure I get there early.😩😂 Because they do run out.. (Good food Always runs out) It’s family owned and they were nice and welcoming. God Bless you guys.. See you...
Read moreLet me just say, I received outstanding customer service. The women behind the counter acknowledged my presence in a timely manner, and were very pleasant. When they were putting food on my platter, they were attentive to detail about things such as if I wanted gravy on my rice, and any other requests. Had small size turkey wings platter with rice and cabbage. The portions were generous, had two nice sized wings on my platter. I liked the way the carrots, were julliened in the cabbage. Do wish the cabbage did not have the sweet taste of sugar in it. However, it is also traditional, that some African American people do add sugar to some vegetables, they cook. I forgot to ask if they do. My platter was $12 and some change, for what was on it, the price was very fair. I mean two meaty home style cooked wings on a small platter, and besides the two sides, a dinner roll was included. I will...
