Quite possibly the WORST cup of coffee, EVER! It's a shame. It's a really cute coffee shop in Germantown. Nice ambiance. Seats outside. But the coffee..oy vey! First. They only have 12 oz size hot coffee cups? Really? What if you want a larger size? Too bad. I've had coffees all around the country and theres usually at least 2 sizes for hot drip coffee. Now. Barista offered to brew me a pour over. That's fine. But as the coffee was brewing I could tell from the color it was a gonna be a weak tasting coffee. When I tasted it. Yep. Barely had a rich, smooth coffee flavor. Tasted very watery, almost like tea, rather than coffee. When I explained the coffee was lacking any flavor, she said "she'd make me a new cup." I asked her to please add more beans to make it bolder or more flavor. From what I saw she used the same amount of beans as the first cup. When I asked how come it looks so light, both she and another worker kept saying "it was just how their beans are". So I said "no, if you add more coffee beans you'll have a richer stronger flavor. " they kept trying to tell me it doesn't work that way However. The laws of physics and the art of coffee making absolutely disagrees with their faulty logic. Seems to me. They just were skimping on the beans, cutting corners like everywhere else and using as little product as possible, regardless of the tasteless, blaNd, watered down outcome. Never ever again will I make the mistake of wasting my money on their "coffee"...
Read moreI come here pretty often to do work and hang out. The staff is always very nice and knowledgeable, which I appreciate. They create fantastic espresso drinks and are really talented in what they do. They are also very accommodating of dairy allergies which is always appreciated.
This location also has a bakery, and wow. Some of my personal favorites include the matcha cake, the raspberry oat bars, and the beignets. There is always something new and exciting to try. They also stock stuff from the Crust vegan bakery!
Their lunch sandwiches are unbelievably good no matter which you get. The focaccia is soft and fluffy and the flavors that they incorporate are always spot on. They sell out pretty quickly, so come early!
Overall, the atmosphere is very pleasing and it is a great place to get work done. Not all spaces have outlets, so keep that in mind. It can also be super busy depending on when you stop in so it can be a challenge to get a seat. Coming early is always best practice.
The only reason I deducted a star is because I literally always spend $10-25 here. Not that I am saying it is not worth the money, but this is not the most affordable coffee spot in the area. That being said, I still like to treat myself every week or two and spend a few hours working.
P.S. in my experience, this cafe tends to be on the warmer side. Dress...
Read moreWanted to try a new spot around the corner from my usual coffee shop Uncle Bobbies - which I LOVE and HIGHLY recommend to anyone in the area.
When I entered Ultimo with a few friends of mine (November 24th at around 2:30pm) we walked up to the counter to order. We stood there for a few minutes before we were even acknowledged. Which was fine, no big deal, I've worked in retail and food - so I get it.
Finally the young woman behind the counter apparently said "Give me a second and I'll take your order." But all I heard was "I'll take your order." So I asked for a hot tea.
She looked back at me and rudely said "ACTUALLY I'm doing something right now so I'll be with you in a minute."
Then, her male co-worker chimed in and said "YEAH she's doing something."
......?
Ok, apologies for not hearing her correctly the first time (as if music wasn't playing and people were talking all around...) but their attitudes were extremely uncalled for. I suggest looking for new jobs if a simple miscommunication like that sends you over the edge.
Do better. Again if anyone would like to support a professional and Black-Owned coffee shop, I suggest Uncle Bobbies...
