We are visiting Philly for the first time and with the lack of servers in the Philly area, we were met with 1 hr waits everywhere last night.
Tonight we decided to just get take out. So we ordered tacos. We went with one of each the chicken, steak, and chorizo (my personal fave), a side of Guac, a side of rice, a side of queso and chips.
The food: the chicken and steak were mostly flavorless but I ate them anyway because I was hungry the chorizo had a lot of flavor and I actually enjoyed it, I was lucky that the oil from the chorizo one soaked into the chicken taco because it gave it flavor it desperately needed. rice tasted boxed guacamole was decent but clearly blended, so more of a sauce than really guacamole. the queso seemed good but I didn't get any chips, which I found out after getting back to the hotel. all of the tacos were luke warm, my fiance had to microwave hers (note: the time between getting the notification that it was ready and eating the food was less than 15 mins, so the food had no reason to be that temp.
Edit: just remembered that we didn't get the churro we ordered and paid for either. Lowering to 2 stars for taking my money without providing what I paid for.
General experience: the order online feature made it nice and easy to place the order customizing was a nice add on lime juice instead of just having lime wedges didn't make sense order was super fast, but since it was cold it was probably left over meat
Probably won't go here again nor recommend this place to...
Read moreGonna lead with the queso. It slapped, absolutely busting some might say. Like velveta and rotel if I had to guess and I know that sounds less than gourmet but still super yummy. I do have respect for the concept with the whole AA theme and the cliches in the menu and all that. While it may seem super corny, the truth is that there’s probably a lot of addicts in recovery working there and getting a second chance at life, and that is the coolest thing about the place. Like really cool. The food was prepared nicely and the portions were not bad. Won’t deny the taste was disappointing. My girlfriend got this bowl with brisket in it and I kid you not it was like 2”x2” chunks which I thought was kinda cool and generous but when I tried one it was pretty tough and took some gnawing on to get down the hatch it was super tough and nothing like the juicy falling apart kinda stuff. I got chicken tacos. Also cut into larger chunks. These were a little smaller than those big brisket chunks though, almost cubed not shredded like I expected. All in all, it was food. I did wish I picked another Mexican restaurant since I had a craving for some real deal Mexican but I am glad that at the very least the money went to something associated with people in recovery. It wasn’t terrible food or anything it just wasn’t good. It was like American food but dressed in Mexican...
Read moreThis is my first time ordering from this place and was actually excited. Unfortunately I received my order with an item missing. I tried calling the number on the website but realized they actually do not take any phone calls. I then called DoorDash to see if they would be able to get in contact with unity taqueria since they use their services and the representative was unsuccessful. I don’t understand if they offer a delivery service when costumers are not able to get in contact with them at a moment’s notice to inform them of a missing item. It was just an extremely aggravating experience. In addition, the food was cold as ice. It seems like they use the food warmers but don’t actually mix the meat around to ensure the entire food is warmed instead of just taking from the top which is the coldest part to pick from. The tortillas was not even warmed or lightly toasted. It was just a cold tortilla and I only live 3 mins from the place. As a Mexican who knows Mexican food this is not authentic and wouldn’t recommend unless you like Tex mex...
