Black Bear Diner Scottsdale — Restaurant in Phoenix

Very nice restaurant chain with a small town feel. I was with a group of 7, and one of us has been a frequenter of this location. Upon entering, the waitress recognized her regular customer and greeting her by name. The waitress, Erica, introduced herself and said it was time for her to clock out, but she said she would stay to wait on us.

The menu is a super cute newspaper-style format. Come to find out, there are many locations, which are listed in the margins. Anyway, Erica took our orders and all drinks and food were prompt, and it would be an understatement to say that the food was large portions. It's like they are serving food for a bear!

Our group enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner selections, with orders from omelets, to buffalo chicken strips, to burgers, to macaroni & cheese. In truth, the food was a little bland, and could stand a little more seasoning. This is the only reason I give it 4 stars. Oh, and the takeout dessert boxes are super cute!

We’ve been going to Black Bear Diner for several years and have enjoyed the whole experience completely! Until today... Our Scottsdale, AZ location finally opened & we were thrilled we could enjoy Black Bear Diner within 20 minutes! The hostess was spectacular! Our server on the other hand was worthless, Basically ignored us! After we were seated I asked our server how her day was going, trying to be pleasant! I dine out every day for lunch, treat people well & tip generously! Though today she was so unpleasant & ignored us! I had to suck on my iced tea iced cubes to no avail, she never came by our table & she only had two other tables. We ordered full size dinners, once delivered we asked for gravy for the pot roast & was charged $1.49 per small cup... We’ve been going to your Glendale location & have been spoiled with attention! Great food, Outstanding team workers! We go at least once every 10 days. Just a note that we will never go back to that location! Even the hostess was so apologetic! I stopped by the new Scottsdale Black Bear Diner this morning! I had a GREAT time with my wonderful server Alexis and the others on the staff there! The food was perfect as my wife and I have come to expect from the 20 or so other Black Bears we've been to. My wife has Celiac's disease. She normally gets a veggie omelet, and has NEVER suffered from cross-contamination at a Black Bear Diner! Lots of quality food, great people, fair price! I HIGHLY recommend all Black Bear Diners, including Scottsdale! "Welcome to the neighborhood, Black Bear!!"

Went back to the Scottsdale Black Bear this past Wednesday morning. I was greeted and served by someone who was training a new person. I felt a little like I was an interruption rather than a valued diner even though there were few other diners there.
